Job summary

Aurora Health Care in Milwaukee seeks a Nursing Assistant to support patient daily living activities and provide compassionate care on a hospital unit. You will orient patients and families, escort to tests, monitor vitals, and document observations in the medical record, following safety policies.

CPI crisis intervention training will be completed within 90 days. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential to collaborate with RNs and care teams while maintaining a safe

Qualifications

• BLS certification required (American Heart Association).
• Nurse Aide in good standing per state registry.
• Successful completion of CPI's Nonviolent Crisis Intervention within 90 days.
• Annual educational requirements for hospital certifications (DNV, DHS, CARF or others).

Responsibilities

• Assist, monitor and maintain patient activities of daily living (ADLs).
• Orient patients and families to the unit and hospital.
• Escort patients to tests, meals, activities; supervise and manage behavior as required.
• Perform vital signs and report significant observations.
• Document pertinent observations in the medical record per policy.
• Defuse crises and intervene using proper procedures; ensure a safe therapeutic environment.
• Perform patient rounding at designated intervals and document accordingly.

Licensure, Registration, And/or Certification Required

• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) and
• Nurse Aide in good standing as indicated with the State Registry in which the team member practices.
• Successful completion of CPI's Nonviolent Crisis Intervention with Advanced Physical Skills within 90 days.
• Team members will maintain annual educational requirements for hospital-based certifications (e.g. DNV, DHS, CARF or others)

Education Required

• Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Nursing Assistant.

Experience Required

• No experience required.

• Good verbal and written skills for safe and effective patient care.
• Demonstrates positive and effective interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday.
• Must be able to:
  • - lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
  • - lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.
  • - carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
• Must be able to:
  • - push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
  • - perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present
• Must be physically able to restrain and control patients who are outwardly psychotic or physically combative.
• Must have functional use of senses to allow for effective communication.
• May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
• Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
