Job summary

Duke Health in Durham, NC is seeking a Behavioral Health Technician for the Duke University Hospital ED Extension Unit Pediatrics. This on-site role supports patients with psychiatric and developmental needs, under RN supervision, and requires CPR/BLS and CPI preferred.

Day shifts are available with 3–12 hour shifts per week, plus a $2500 commitment bonus paid in two installments. The BHT helps with daily living activities, safety, and therapeutic programs while maintaining a safe care

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of experience with mental health, substance use, dementia, or developmental disabilities preferred.
• BLS certification and CPI preferred; must pursue credential within specified timelines.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patients and report changes to the nursing team.
• Assist with activities of daily living and mobility.
• Provide one-on-one support and facilitate social activities.
• Maintain safe, clean patient care environment and participate in team discussions.
• Follow infection prevention, safety, and regulatory standards.
• Assist with crisis situations and patient safety interventions when needed.
