Job summary

Reid Health Main Campus is seeking a Behavioral Health Safety Technician (BHST) to support daily patient care under RN supervision. The role includes 1:1 supervision for high-risk patients, clerical duties, and care coordination across disciplines. Strong communication and recordkeeping are essential.

The BHST follows treatment plans, uses medical terminology accurately, and adheres to infection control policies. This is a part-time daytime position with ~24 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 1 year experience in an acute or long-term health care setting.
• BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

• Answer telephone and intercom to communicate with staff and patients.
• Provide 1:1 supervision for high-risk patients.
• Perform clerical tasks and light clinical duties.
• Maintain and organize medical records per universal chart order.
• Coordinate care with other disciplines and notify staff as directed.
• Transport patients as needed.
• Follow infection control policies and hand hygiene.
• Report and post charts and records as required.
• Monitor hours to avoid overtime; notify supervisor about overtime.

Under the direction and supervision of the RN, the Behavioral Health Safety Technician (BHST) is an NCA responsible to provide daily services involving basic care for patients, answering the telephone and intercom, provides 1:1 supervision for patients with high risk of assaultive/aggressive/suicidal behaviors, performing a variety of clerical duties and clinical tasks as well as other assigned unit duties. The Behavioral Health Safety Technician (BHST) is also responsible for following the individual treatment plan and program rules in the provision of care. Must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served.* Uses computer and software programs with proficiency* Uses accurate medical terminology.* Follows Code Procedures.* Properly operates unit communication equipment.* Calls staff as directed.* Transports patients.* Initiates and maintains records and reports.* Organizes and maintains medical record in accordance with universal chart order, thins charts and prepares discharged medical record for timely pickup.* Initiates work orders.* Post reports on charts.* Strict adherence to Infection Control Policy with specific emphasis on hand hygiene. Coordinates care with other disciplines.* Uses appropriate resources – Charge Nurse, Unit Manager, Directors, Administrative Coordinator, Pharmacy, etc.* Demonstrates good time management by having no unjustified overtime.* Informs supervisor when hours worked may accrue overtime and incidental overtime.
