Job summary

Gateway Regional Medical Center is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the Behavioral Health unit. You will provide compassionate nursing care to adult and geriatric patients, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to promote safety and healing.

Qualifications

• Accredited RN program completed.
• Current Illinois RN license.
• Current BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross) prior to hire.
• Current CPI certification or willingness to complete CPI within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to complete competency training in restraint, seclusion, and take-down procedures.
• Understanding of the needs of adult and geriatric patients.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to assess, prioritize, delegate, and coordinate patient care.
• Basic computer skills.
• Positive, team-oriented attitude and respect for others.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in the Behavioral Health area.
• Assess patient needs and develop/implement care plans; document care accurately.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and respond promptly.
• Use nursing process and clinical judgment within the Illinois Nurse Practice Act.
• Communicate with patients, families, physicians, and care team clearly.
• Assess patient care needs and appropriately assign responsibilities to LPNs, BH Techs, BH Specialists, and Nurse Externs.
• Provide direction and accountability for care delivered by nursing team.
• Serve as resource and support to newly hired or reassigned staff.
• Maintain a safe, therapeutic environment for patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.
• Utilize CPI skills including de-escalation and, if needed, restraint/seclusion take-down procedures.
• Participate in post-intervention care and ongoing competency training.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and follow policies and instructions.
• Complete required orientation and ongoing education.
• Maintain composure and sound clinical judgment in stressful situations.
• Rotate shifts as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Department Manager or Service Director.
