Job Summary

The College of Nursing has an opening for a full‑time (1.00 FTE), benefits‑eligible Behavioral Health Provider / Instructor in the Non‑Tenure Clinical Practice Track within its federally qualified community health center, Sheridan Health Services (SHS), located in southwest Denver, CO (zip code: 80236). This position is clinic based as a mental health provider and includes an instructor level, non‑tenure clinical teaching track appointment within the College of Nursing.

Nature of Work

This role will deliver behavioral health services within an integrated medical setting and provide instruction as part of a clinical teaching track appointment.

Clinic Description

Sheridan Health Services is a multi‑site, nurse‑managed federally qualified community health center that serves residents of Arapahoe, Denver, and Jefferson counties. The clinic includes a Youth Health Clinic within the Sheridan School District Administration building and a Family Health Clinic on the Fort Logan campus. Services offered include primary care, prenatal and post‑partum care, gynecology, dentistry, pharmacy, behavioral health, and outpatient substance use treatment. Sheridan Health Services operates as a Patient‑Centered Medical Home and collaborates on community outreach, health education, and home visitation services through nursing students.

Supervision Received

Direct supervision will be provided by the Behavioral Health Program Director.

Supervision Exercised

Opportunities to provide supervision to Master’s level counseling/social work students and clinical supervision of unlicensed Behavioral Health Providers, as available.

Examples of Work Performed

Behavioral Health Service Provision (90%)

• Provide brief behavioral health therapy and screenings in an integrated medical setting for patients ages 0‑99.
• Provide general outpatient behavioral health treatment via individual therapy, care coordination, crisis management, skill building, and psycho‑education to ages 0‑99.
• Provide couples and/or family therapy as appropriately qualified/trained.
• Conduct therapy and integrated care screenings virtually via telehealth platform as needed.
• Contribute as a member of multidisciplinary teams comprising medical, psychiatry, dental, pharmacy, patient navigation, health education, and other behavioral health professionals to deliver services.
• Provide care coordination with primary care providers, school personnel, family members, patient navigators, and other mental health and community partners.
• Evaluate crisis situations and take appropriate action to ensure client safety and the safety of all clinic users.
• Utilize best practices and provide all treatment within appropriate limits.
• Demonstrate high‑quality customer service focus, good communication and professionalism with clinic users, co‑workers, and representatives from outside agencies, and enhance community relationships.

Administrative (10%)

• Participate in scheduled behavioral health team meetings, interdisciplinary work groups, monthly staff meetings, and other required meetings.
• Complete all required clinical and administrative documentation to accepted standards of practice, accurately, legibly, and by established timelines on electronic health record system and paper as needed.
• Complete and follow through with financial and clinical information necessary to ensure reimbursement for provided services.
• Perform other duties as determined by the Behavioral Health Program Director or Executive Director.
• Complete necessary documentation.

Minimum Qualifications

Instructor (Unlicensed)

• Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or closely related field.
• Completion of one year of post‑degree work experience in behavioral health. Can be working toward CO clinical licenses during application process and registered with DORA – Department of Regulatory Agencies.

Instructor (Licensed)

• Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or closely related field.
• Current licensure as Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, or similar.
• Current licensure in good standing (any state). Could be working toward CO clinical licenses during application process and registered with DORA – Department of Regulatory Agencies. Must have CO licenses by date of hire.

Senior Instructor

• Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or closely related field.
• Current licensure as Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor, or similar.
• Current licensure in good standing (any state). Could be working toward CO clinical licenses during application process and registered with DORA – Department of Regulatory Agencies. Must have CO licenses by date of hire.
• Demonstrated leadership in area of practice.
• Demonstrated experience collaborating with academic colleagues and students in practice activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience utilizing bilingual skills (Spanish/English) at a conversational level in a clinical setting on a daily basis.
• Experience working with population‑based outcomes.
• Experience with care delivery that incorporates a social justice perspective around intersectionality of racism, classism, LGBTQ issues, social determinants of health, and other forms of oppression.
• Experience with prevention and early intervention approaches, utilizing trauma‑informed care, and working with co‑occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
• Experience with conducting therapy via telehealth/virtual platforms.
• Experience utilizing language interpreters in a behavioral health and/or medical setting.
• Current licensure as Certified Addictions Specialist (CAS) or Licensed Addictions Counselor (LAC).

Conditions of Employment

• Must be willing and able to complete CAQH by date of hire.
• Must be willing and able to obtain current BLS/CPR certification within one month of hire.

• Must be willing and able to remain credentialed by the health plans and ensure credentialing materials stay current.
• Must be willing and able to ensure strict compliance with University and professional policies/procedures.
• Must be willing and able to work in a normal patient care environment with some exposure to biological hazards and infectious diseases.
• Must be willing and able to work weekends as required.

Competencies

• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse population of staff, faculty, community members, and clients.
• Expertise in clinical assessment and therapeutic interventions with children and youth, adults, families, and groups.
• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of primary‑care‑behavioral health integrated programs, including fundamental elements of co‑located and/or fully integrated services.
• Ability to effectively utilize computer and electronic medical record.
• Ability to provide a minimum of 30 billable client contacts per 40‑hour work week.

Anticipated Pay Range

The starting salary range for this position has been established as:

• Instructor (Unlicensed): $53,168 annually
• Instructor (Licensed): $66,460 – $74,767 annually
• Senior Instructor: $67,125 – $75,515 annually

This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level. Total compensation includes generous leave, health plans, and retirement contributions.
