Qualifications

  • Current matriculation in an accredited Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science program in human services, psychology, or social sciences.
  • Knowledge of human development stages, aging processes, and cultural patterns.

Job description

Overview

The Behavioral Health Intern (BHI) works under the direction of the Clinical Manager (Inpatient) or Program Director (Partial/Residential). The BHI provides care and safety to children and adolescents, contributes to the therapeutic milieu, and documents observations and interventions as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment, actively engage with assigned children, and implement the well‑designed milieu care plan. Document level of patient observation, assist with daily routines, and handle crises using de‑escalation techniques.
  • Adhere to all hospital, departmental, and program policies and procedures. Coordinate and support transitions of care for patients and families.
  • Participate in patient‑care planning under the direction of the RN or Shift Lead, supporting therapeutic alliance and contributing to daily observations and care plan revisions.
  • Support development of care plans and behavioral management, teaching patients daily living skills, leading therapeutic groups, and coordinating unit activities and recreation therapy.
  • Act as a safety and crisis responder, using safe body‑positioning techniques and the Bradley Hospital Safety Care Specialist certification, including lifting up to 50 pounds and managing short‑distance escorting of patients.
Qualifications
  • Current Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Current matriculation in an accredited Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science program in human services, psychology, social sciences, or related field (Associate’s Degree considered).
  • Knowledge of human development stages, aging processes, and cultural patterns in patient care.
  • Bradley Hospital Safety Care Specialist Certification (provided upon orientation).
Minimum Requirements

Experience and education as outlined in the Qualifications section. Works under supervision of a Registered Nurse or Program Supervisor and refers complex problems to a supervisor.

Compensation

Pay Range: $18.00 – $27.13 per hour
