The Behavioral Health Clinician at Valley Health System provides mental health and substance use screening, brief interventions, and referrals for adult patients in crisis. You will conduct initial assessments, participate in multidisciplinary planning, and coordinate ongoing care while documenting per state regulations.
Qualifications include a Master’s in Behavioral Health, BLS/HES provider certification, and eligibility for LCSW/LPC within 3 months.

The Behavioral Health Clinician provides mental health screening, substance abuse screening, brief intervention, brief therapy/psychotherapy, and referral to services for adult patients in crisis. The Clinician conducts initial intake assessments, crisis intervention, and clinical determination for level of care. The Clinician works with a multidisciplinary team of professionals, including physicians, nurse practitioners, mental health associates, nurses, and off-site behavioral health staff. The Clinician is responsible for ongoing care coordination on individuals in behavioral health crisis. The Clinician completes all required documentation timely and in accordance with State regulations. Participates in multi-disciplinary treatment planning. Most of the Clinician’s time will be spent in patient service delivery. The Clinician assesses patients’ behavioral health/substance use needs through screening, deliver brief motivationally informed interventions to promote healthy behavior change and connect patients with the appropriate level of care they need.
Master's degree in the Behavioral Health Field, such as Social Work or Counseling, is required.
Experience working in medical setting is preferred.
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved required. New hires must have American Heart Association (AHA) appropriate certification prior to the completion of orientation. LCSW/LPC preferred. LCSW eligible or LPC eligible within 3 months of employment required.
Knowledgeable in the cognitive, physical, emotional and chronological stages of human growth and development required. Competent to provide assessment, care and treatment appropriate to the age group of patients served required. Competent to successfully interact with patients according to their special needs which may apply based on the age of the patient served Familiarity with local resources and their programs required. Prior academic or practical training in motivational interviewing and cognitive-behavioral therapy required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
