Job summary

Preferred Behavioral Health Group in New Jersey is seeking a Behavioral Health Billing Coding Specialist to join our office team in Toms River. You will manage claims, follow-ups, payor portals, and patient statements to ensure accurate processing and timely reimbursement.

The role requires at least 3 years in behavioral health billing/coding, familiarity with NJMHAPP, Medicare/Medicaid, and both for-profit and non-profit settings are preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of behavioral health billing/coding experience.
• Experience with NJMHAPP, commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, state and county payors.
• Ability to navigate complex billing environments with accuracy.
• Experience in both for-profit and non-profit behavioral health settings preferred.

Responsibilities

• Submit claims to NJMHAAP, commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, state and county payors, following payer rules.
• Follow up on outstanding claims and resolve denials in a timely manner.
• Use payer portals for submission, eligibility checks and follow-up.
• Review payer rejections and reporting in clearinghouse.
• Maintain knowledge of billing codes, compliance guidelines and regulatory changes.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state and local billing regulations.
• Review and send patient statements; manage delinquent accounts.
• Communicate with clients about billing inquiries and options including hardships.
• Collaborate with Quality and Compliance to support system configuration and workflow efficiency.
• Coordinate offshore billing team to maintain quality standards and performance goals.
