Job summary

Preferred Behavioral Health of New Jersey is seeking an experienced Behavioral Health Medical Billing Coding Specialist. The role requires 3+ years in behavioral health billing/coding and familiarity with NJMHAPP, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payors.

Strong accuracy and regulatory knowledge are essential. The position is full-time at Office 52 Hyers Street, Toms River, NJ, with responsibilities spanning claim submission, denials follow-up, payer portal usage, and collaboration across teams to

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Billing Coding Certificates (CPB, CMRS, or equivalent) preferred.
• Experience with CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding standards.
• Knowledge of payer regulations and behavioral health billing requirements.
• Experience with NJMHAPP, commercial, Medicare, Medicaid payors is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Submit claims to NJMHAAP, commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, state, and county payors.
• Follow up on outstanding claims and resolve denials.
• Use payer portals for submission, eligibility checks, and follow-up.
• Review payer rejections and reporting in clearinghouse.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of billing codes and regulatory changes.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Review and send patient statements; manage delinquent accounts.
• Communicate with clients about billing inquiries and options.
• Coordinate with offshore billing team to maintain quality.
