Job summary

Legacy Health is seeking a Behavioral Health Assistant to support patient care in a collaborative treatment environment. You will work under RN supervision to administer interventions, collect vital signs, assist with ADLs, and help transport patients across the hospital.

The role emphasizes teamwork, professional communication, and maintaining a safe, therapeutic behavioral health milieu while documenting observations in EPIC.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required or preferred.
  • Experience or coursework in behavioral health is favorable.
  • BLS for Provider certification or equivalent preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the treatment team to support patient care.
  • Administer nursing interventions under RN supervision.
  • Collect vital signs and document patient data as directed.
  • Assist with patient transport within the hospital.
  • Support ADLs and basic hygiene tasks as needed.
  • Provide comfort measures and monitor safety with bedding and positioning.
  • Apply safety protocols and environmental checks.
  • Perform basic clinical tasks under RN direction (EKG, pulse ox, point-of-care tests).
  • Assist with discharge instructions under RN guidance.
  • Communicate clearly with patients, families, EMS, and staff.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborates with the multidisciplinary treatment team to support patient care in alignment with the treatment model of the unit.

  • Administers prescribed nursing interventions under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN).

  • Collects and documents patient data, including obtaining vital signs, as directed by RN.

  • Assists with the transportation of patients throughout the hospital.

  • Provides support with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as toileting, hygiene, physical transfers, and cleaning up bodily fluids as needed.

  • Delivers comfort measures including patient positioning and providing additional blankets or pillows.

  • Ensures patient safety through the use of ordered restraints, fall prevention strategies, and environmental hazard checks.

  • Applies correct body mechanics during patient positioning, transfers, and ambulation.

  • Performs basic clinical tasks such as EKGs, pulse oximetry placement, and point-of-care lab testing, as directed by RN.

  • Assists with the discharge process, including reinforcing discharge instructions provided by the RN.

  • Communicates clearly and professionally with patients, families, EMS, and hospital staff.

  • Maintains a therapeutic and safe environment within the behavioral health milieu.

  • Accurately documents significant behavioral observations and interactions in the patient's electronic medical record (EPIC) to support treatment progress.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Training or coursework in behavioral health field preferred.

Experience:

  • One year of clinical experience in a behavioral health setting or related experience required; two year’s preferred.
  • Acute care experience preferred.

Skills:

  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment with ability to prioritize multiple assignments.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Keyboard skills and ability to navigate electronic systems applicable to job functions.
Licensure
  • BLS for Provider certification from the American Heart Association required.
Pay Range

USD $21.70 - USD $29.39 /Hr.
