Job summary

Good Samaritan University Hospital, part of Catholic Health, seeks a capable Health Tech to support behavioral health patients. You will monitor patients one-to-one, perform vital signs and EKGs, and assist with activities of daily living during psychiatric emergencies.

Responsibilities include de-escalation, documenting observations, communicating with the nursing team, and ensuring patient safety. High school diploma required; BLS certification mandatory; hospital experience and experience

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with mentally ill population preferred.
  • BLS certification required from American Heart Association.

Responsibilities

  • Uses crisis and/or de-escalation intervention practices when necessary with clients whose behavior cannot be otherwise supported.
  • Assists in the application and removal of restraints when deemed necessary by appropriate personnel and ensures safety.
  • Identifies patient characteristics and environmental triggers and communicates them to the team.
  • Performs one-to-one observation and documents observations on forms or EHR.
  • Performs patient checks/rounds and reports observations to nursing staff.
  • Communicates clinical matters to the RN or other staff as required.
  • Records vital signs and EKGs accurately.
  • Safely assists with ADLs during psychiatric emergencies/RRTs.
  • Interacts therapeutically with patients, families, and staff.
  • Promotes positive working relationships with peers.

Job Details
  • Utilizes crisis and /or de-escalation intervention practices, when necessary and appropriate, with clients whose behavior cannot be otherwise supported without such interventions.
  • Assists in the application and removal of restraints when deemed necessary by appropriate personnel and ensures the physical and emotional health and safety of the patient when using such methods.
  • Identifies patient characteristics and environmental variables that may trigger agitated behavior(s) and communicates such information to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Performs observation and monitoring of assigned patients on a one-to-one basis. Document observations on forms and/or computerized patient record as per policy.
  • Performs patient checks/rounds as required, and reports observations, interactions and patient activity to assigned nursing staff. Document observations on forms and/or computerized patient record as per policy.
  • Communicates clinical matters to assigned RN or other professional staff as required.
  • Accurately performs/records procedures (Full vital signs, WT)
  • Accurately performs EKGs
  • Safely assists with ADL's, with Psychiatric Emergencies/RRTs
  • Interacts therapeutically/respectfully with all patients, their family members and staff.
  • Promotes positive working relationships with peers and others.
Requirements
  • High School or equivalent diploma.
  • Experience working with the mentally ill population preferred.
  • Previous hospital experience a plus.
  • BLS Certified required – must be from American Heart Association
Salary Range

USD $26.52 - USD $33.45 /Hr.
