Behavioral Health Aide

Job Summary

The Behavioral Health Aide will be a part of our team as we enhance our integrated service delivery model between healthcare disciplines. The Behavioral Health Aid works as a Clinical Associate under the supervision of a Master's level Clinician to deliver crisis and informal supportive counseling services, preventive care, early intervention, case management, and aftercare services to children and adults with assistance from other members of the treatment team.

Essential Functions
  • Deliver prevention, intervention, treatment, and aftercare services to individuals affected by substance abuse and mental health disorders
  • Maintain awareness of community resources available to un'ina and families
  • Collaborate with Licensed Behavioral Health Clinicians to ensure un'ina (patient) receives highly coordinated care
  • Keep case records up to date, comprehensive in nature and in accordance with Tribal, State and Medicaid standards
  • Operate independently under the guidelines of the BHA/P program manual
  • Respond promptly to community needs, providing support as required
  • Maintain required qualifications and adhere to all applicable external and internal mandates, including legislation, governing practices, licensure and registration requirements, professional degree criteria, ongoing training for sustained compentency, on-the-job training requirements, and established professional standards of practice
  • Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED
Experience
  • One year (1) of experience in a healthcare setting required, with Community Behavioral Health setting preferred
Preferred
  • Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities
  • Experience providing direct services to SED youth or SMI adults
  • Associate's Degree or higher in Mental Health related field
  • Chemical Dependency Counselor I, II, III, or Supervisor certification
License/Certification
  • Behavioral Health Aid T, I, II, III, or P certification, or obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Must have a valid Alaska State driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy, or obtain within 90 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, or obtain within 90 days of hire
Special Skills
  • Knowledge of drug and alcohol abuse indicators, and treatment options, and other community resources
  • Understanding of the effects of domestic violence, child abuse and neglect on individuals
  • Conducts business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, respectful and kind when dealing with un'ina, visitors, co-workers and others
  • Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite, or obtain training within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to multi-task, work independently, and meet deadlines

This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
