Position Definition

The Behavioral Consultant (ABA) will design behavioral interventions in collaboration with the treatment team.

Relationship

The Behavioral Consultant (ABA) shall be directly responsible to the Behavioral Health Services Supervisor.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

• Master’s degree in Mental Health field, required.


• Minimum one year of experience in behavior modification and interventions, required.


• Licensed Behavior Specialist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist or Licensed Professional Counselor, preferred, only one required.


• At least 12 credits in the provision of ABA services from a college/university or at least one year of full-time experience under the supervision of a BCBA and 40 hours of training in ABA.


• Completion of all ongoing training, policy review, and supervision requirements.

Authority

The Behavioral Consultant (ABA) will have the authority to perform all functions listed below in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Functions/Duties/Responsibilities

Essential

• Reviews and analyzes client behaviors for the development of a client behavior management program.


• Monitors clients in the area of behavioral management.


• Coordinates resources based on the behavior management program to enhance client and family functioning.


• Assists in problem solving when conflicts arise over behavioral paradigms in other involved systems.


• Troubleshoots with the team when behavioral interventions are seen as ineffective for the client or family.


• Makes quick and accurate clinical assessments of mental and behavioral conditions.


• Possesses high level of comfort in working with primary care medical providers using a consultative style.


• Works through brief client contacts, including via telephone and teleconferencing.


• Designs and implements clinical pathways and protocols for treatment of selected mental and behavioral conditions.


• Works with grace under pressure.


• Works in a team to share responsibilities and duties.


• Resolves interpersonal conflict in a straightforward and timely manner.

• Understands CLIU and/or departmental procedures and guidelines, as demonstrated by accurate application of procedures and guidelines.

Secondary

• Collaborates with the Mobile Therapist and Therapeutic Staff Support Worker to monitor effectiveness of treatment plans.


• Participates in interagency service and planning meetings to ensure consistency in all treatment settings.


• Performs other duties, as assigned by the Supervisor of Behavioral Health Services and/or designee.
