Job summary

AdventHealth in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, is seeking a PRN Day shift position focused on patient observation and therapeutic care in a behavioral health setting. You will monitor patients, document observations in real time, and collaborate with nurses and clinicians to ensure safe treatment and de-escalation when needed.

The role requires strong English communication, basic computer and Office skills, and knowledge of healthcare regulations.

Qualifications

  • Ability to communicate appropriately, professionally, and effectively with patients and their family, hospital staff, nurses, physicians, and other health care professionals.
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in the health care industry.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of regulatory requirements and local, state, and national laws.
  • Proficiency in computer systems to enter and track patient records.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak conversational English.

Responsibilities

  • Observes patients to detect behavior patterns and report observations and concerns to the registered nurse or behavioral health clinician.
  • Implements patient-centered care and trauma-informed care.
  • Creates and supports a therapeutic environment for safe treatment implementation.
  • Performs observation rounds on assigned patients, documenting in real time, in order to detect behavior patterns.
  • Utilizes clear and positive communication skills to assess and provide therapeutic intervention for patients' and families' needs and concerns.
  • Records measures of patients' general physical condition, such as vital signs and blood glucose levels, as ordered.
  • Orients patients and families to the unit. Identifies early signs of escalation in patients and effectively de-escalates.
  • Intervenes to restrain violent or potentially violent or suicidal patients as required, and monitors patients in restraints according to policy guidelines.
  • Performs environmental rounds per policy and report unsafe conditions.
  • Manages or assists with daily group activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Description
