Job description

Behavior Technician
Tacoma, WA | Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
$23.00 to $29.00 per hour, depending on experience and credentials

Come do work that matters

We teach kids who learn differently. Our students have special needs, and they deserve people who show up for them with patience, creativity, and heart. That is where you come in.

As a Behavior Technician, you work one on one with students and use applied behavior analysis to help them build skills, communicate, and grow. You are the person in the room when a breakthrough happens. You collect the data that tells us what is working. You are part of a team that speaks up for kids who are too often overlooked.

You do not need a background in ABA to start. You need to care, to be reliable, and to be willing to learn. We provide the training and the support. If you want to build a career in behavior analysis or special education, this is a real place to begin, and we will help you get there.

What you'll do

Working with students:

  • Deliver one on one and small group instruction using the strategies your BCBA and teacher set
  • Run teaching trials and help students build new skills
  • Follow each student's behavior intervention plan (BIP)
  • Collect and record accurate data on skills and behavior
  • Use approved Safety-Care procedures when a student needs physical support to stay safe
  • Prepare meals and snacks, and deliver medication when assigned
  • Keep student information confidential and treat every student with dignity

Working with your team:

  • Communicate student events and progress to your teacher and BCBA
  • Support your Lead Technician with prep and indirect tasks
  • Help prepare student materials and assessment drafts
  • Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and outside professionals as part of the treatment team

Taking care of the space:

  • Keep the classroom and facility clean, safe, and organized
  • Drive company vehicles when needed for student activities
  • Handle other duties that come with the work
What you bring
  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Experience working with children (K to 12 preferred)
  • Clear written and spoken communication
  • The ability to work as part of a team, and to make good calls on your own when the moment calls for it
  • Patience, follow-through, and a level head under pressure
  • A valid driver's license, a clean driving record, reliable transportation, a working cell phone, and current auto insurance
  • Willingness to complete a 40 hour training within your first week (we pay a stipend when you finish)
  • CPR certification within 90 days of hire
  • Food Handler's Card within 90 days of hire
Nice to have
  • Experience in a school, home, or community setting
  • Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis
  • Experience supporting children with special needs or significant behaviors
  • A two or four year degree in education, psychology, or a related field
  • A current RBT or CBT credential (these candidates get first consideration)
The physical side of the job, so there are no surprises

This is an active role, and student safety depends on your ability to respond quickly. You should be able to:

  • Move between postures throughout the day: kneeling, squatting, crawling, sitting, and standing for long stretches
  • Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Run and walk for at least five minutes at a time, escort a student for at least five minutes, and climb a six foot fence if a student runs
  • Respond physically to active or aggressive students ages 5 to 22, which can include evasion and approved escorts, holds, and restraints
  • See clearly up close and at a distance, with good depth perception and peripheral vision

Work environment: You will be around moderate and sometimes loud noise. You may spend short periods outdoors in heat, cold, or wet weather. Because the role involves physical activity and occasional physical management, there is some risk of injury. You may be exposed to bodily fluids, which carries potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens.

If you need a reasonable accommodation to perform any part of this job, tell us. We will work through it with you.

Pay

$23.00 to $29.00 per hour. Where you land in that range depends on your experience and credentials.

Benefits and other compensation

Full-time employees are eligible for:

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Employer-paid life insurance and long term disability insurance
  • 401(k) with company match (waiting periods apply)
  • Paid holidays
  • Paid sick leave under Washington State law
  • A paid stipend when you complete your 40 hour training
  • Supervised fieldwork hours for staff pursuing BCBA or BCABA certification, provided as part of your employment
  • Paid, ongoing training and a team that helps you grow
