Job summary

ABA Centers of New Jersey is seeking a Behavior Technician (BT) for full-time in Hackensack, NJ. The BT role offers a starting rate of $22.25 per hour, with higher pay for RBTs at $24.60 per hour, and a clear path for certification and advancement.

We provide paid training, mentorship, and support to help you pass the RBT exam after training. You will work under BCBA supervision, delivering ABA therapy, teaching essential skills, and collecting session data in homes, schools, or clinics.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 6+ months of relevant experience, including internships or related roles.
• Availability during afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.
• Reliable transportation with valid driver’s license and insurance; ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and driving record review.

Responsibilities

• Direct Client Support.
• Deliver ABA therapy in homes, schools, communities, or clinics.
• Teach communication, social, and daily living skills.
• Implement individualized treatment plans under BCBA supervision.
• Track progress and maintain quality; document session data accurately.
• Collaborate with BCBAs, team members, and families; participate in team meetings and ongoing training.
• Support operations with administrative and clinical tasks as needed.

What You’ll Do

What We’re Looking For

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 6+ months of relevant experience (including internships or related roles)
• Availability during afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Reliable transportation with valid driver’s license and insurance
• Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and driving record review
• NJ candidates must be at least 21 years of age and have a minimum of 1 year of experience working with children, in healthcare, or in a related field.

Position-Specific

• Behavior Technician (BT): Complete a 40-hour paid training program over 2 consecutive weeks (at the same rate of pay), followed by precepting (hands-on supervision), and pass the RBT exam within 45 days (up to 3 weeks total)
• Registered Behavior Technician (RBT): Active certification in good standing; 1 week of paid training followed by precepting (hands-on supervision) (up to 2 weeks total)
• Training availability (BT / RBT): Must be available Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM

Preferred

• Experience in childcare, education, or related fields
• Experience working with children or adolescents
• Prior exposure to ABA services
