Job summary

North Adams Public Schools in North Adams, MA, is seeking a Behavior Technician for the 2026/2027 school year to support a substantially separate SEL/Behavioral Program. This 7-hour-per-day, 180-day position is for the school year only.

Under supervision of the Building Principal and the Director of Student Support Services, you will implement behavioral strategies, collect data, and collaborate with teachers to assist students with social-emotional and behavioral needs.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree, equivalent coursework, or ParaPro exam passing score.
  • Experience working with students with social-emotional and behavioral disabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal skills; willingness to undergo additional specialized training.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators to provide a structured approach to behavioral management.
  • Work with students to reduce behaviors such as aggression, self-injury, property destruction, disruption.
  • Use strategies provided by the BCBA to instruct students in accordance with IEPs.
  • Provide mentoring and direct support to students during unstructured times (lunch, recess).
  • Collect data on behavioral interventions and assist in monitoring progress.
  • Implement elements of student behavior plans under supervision of the BCBA and Special Education Coordinator.
  • Participate in IEP/Behavior Plan meetings as necessary.

Job Description

Colegrove Park Elementary School is seeking a Behavior Technician for the upcoming 2026/2027 school year, to support a substantially separate SEL/Behavioral Program. This position is for the school year only. It is for 7 hours per day for 180 days.

Job Goal: To provide the best educational experience for the schools’ students.

Supervision: Reports to Building Principal and Director of Student Support Services.

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teachers and administrators to provide a highly structured approach to behavioral management
  • Work with students to reduce behaviors such as aggression, self-injury, property destruction, disruption
  • Use strategies provided by the BCBA (ie discrete trial training) to instruct students in accordance with Individualized Education Programs
  • Provide mentoring and direct support to students during specified un-structured times of the day (lunch, recess, etc)
  • Collect data on behavioral interventions and assist in monitoring progress
  • With teachers and other support staff, implement elements of student behavior intervention plans under the supervision of the BCBA and Special Education Coordinator
  • Participate in meetings (IEP, Behavior Plan, etc.) as necessary.

Required:

  • Associate's degree, equivalent course hours, or passing score on ParaPro exam
  • Experience working with students that have moderate to severe social emotional and behavioral disabilities.
  • Good written and verbal skills.
  • Must be willing to undergo additional specialized training.

Physical Requirements: The position requires a moderate amount of walking, standing, sitting and climbing stairs and step stool whenever necessary. Activities also include moderate physical exertion in body movement such as reaching, bending, twisting, grasping, pushing, and pulling of objects. The position requires lifting objects of 20 pounds on a frequent basis, and over 20 pounds occasionally. There is a frequent requirement of fine manipulation associated with the required use of a computer, typewriter, keyboard, calculator, and other business machines.

Environmental Conditions: The occupant is required to work indoors. The regular chemical solvents are toners, inks, and cleaning fluids.

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $23,000 to $23,000 Per Year
