Job summary

Arrow Child & Family Ministries seeks a Behavior Support Specialist to provide family-oriented rehabilitative mental health services in home and community settings across Texas. You will deliver individual and group skills development, parenting training, and intensive case management under state standards.

Responsibilities include client visits, trauma-informed care, documentation in electronic records, trainings, on-call crisis support, and adherence to program curricula and COA standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, mental health or related human services field plus 1 year of youth mental health experience.
  • High school diploma or GED with 5 years of youth mental health experience may be accepted in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regularly scheduled client visits in home and community.
  • Provide trauma-informed services to all clients and families.
  • Provide support services per the client’s Individualized Treatment Plan.
  • Deliver services per program curricula and protocols.
  • Document all services in Arrow’s electronic client record per standards.
  • Maintain accurate, truthful documentation usable in court if needed.
  • Participate in trainings and supervision.
  • Provide crisis intervention to family 24/7 as needed.
  • Participate in on-call rotation as indicated.
  • Maintain a manageable caseload while meeting outcomes and care levels.
  • Complete and maintain CANS certification.
  • May be required to drive Arrow vehicles and complete vehicle training.
  • Perform duties under contract, state/federal regulations, Arrow policy, and COA standards.

Education

Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, mental health or related human services field
Master’s Degree (preferred)

Job description

Overview

The primary responsibility of the Behavior Support Specialist is to provide family oriented, individual and/or group rehabilitative mental health services, skills training and development, medication training, parenting skills training, and intensive case management and support services to clients of the agency per state specified standards and requirements. The Behavior Support Specialist is responsible for the direct provision of in-home and community-based rehabilitation and support services to participating youth and families. These services are typically provided to consumers in their homes, communities and/or program sites.

Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Conduct regularly scheduled client visits in the home and community.
  • Provide trauma informed services to all clients and families.
  • Provide support services in accordance with the client’s Individualized Treatment Plan.
  • Provide services in accordance with program specified curriculums.
  • Document the provision of all services in Arrow’s electronic client record and in accordance with Arrow and payor standards.
  • Document services provided with the understanding that all clinical notations are considered legal documents and can be used in a court of law. All documentation should be true and accurate and under no circumstance falsified in any manner.
  • Participate in ongoing trainings and supervisions.
  • Provide crisis intervention to family 24/7 as needed.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation with other team members as indicated by program.
  • Maintain a manageable caseload to ensure outcomes and practice requirements are met while taking into consideration the level of care of clients served.
  • Completes and maintains CANS certification.
  • May be required to drive ACFM vehicles, be insurable with our auto insurance provider, and complete Arrow’s vehicle training.
  • Perform all duties within contract, state and federal regulations, Arrow policy, and COA standards.
Qualifications

Requirements vary by program and state.

  • Treatment Foster Care (Texas) - Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, mental health or another related human services field and at least one (1) year of previous experience working with youth in a mental health setting preferred. High school diploma or GED with at least five (5) years of previous experience working with youth in a mental health setting may be accepted in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Community-Based Services (Texas) – Must possess a Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, mental health or another related human services field and at least one (1) year of previous experience working with youth in a mental health setting. Master’s Degree preferred.
