Job Summary
The Behavior Prevention Specialist supports districtwide implementation of violence prevention, restorative practices, trauma-informed supports, de-escalation, and proactive behavioral strategies aligned with Project Prevent goals. The specialist builds staff capacity, supports safe and positive school climates, and assists schools in implementing effective Tier 1 and Tier 2 prevention systems that reduce behavioral incidents, limit exclusionary discipline, strengthen student regulation and relationships, and improve student outcomes. This is a grant‑funded position focused on coaching adults, supporting schools, coordinating prevention programming, and sustaining evidence‑based practices across the district.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in education, psychology, counseling, social work, behavioral science, public health, or a related field;
- A minimum of three years of successful experience working with youth, schools, violence‑prevention initiatives, behavioral supports, or related student‑support programming;
- Demonstrated experience facilitating groups, coaching adults, or designing and delivering professional learning;
- Strong written and verbal communication, facilitation, organization, and relationship‑building skills;
- Ability to travel among district schools and work effectively in varied school environments;
- Alternatives to the above qualifications, as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent and the Board;
- Master's degree in education, psychology, counseling, social work, behavioral science, public health, or a related field preferred;
- Current Georgia educator or student support certification, as applicable, preferred;
- Experience working in Title I or high‑needs school settings preferred;
- Training, coaching, or implementation experience in MTSS, PBIS, restorative practices, trauma‑informed supports, de‑scalation, counseling, mentoring, or violence prevention preferred;
- Experience supporting grant‑funded programs, deliverables, data collection, or reporting preferred.

- Knowledge of proactive behavior prevention, restorative practices, trauma‑informed supports, student regulation, de‑scalation, conflict resolution, and alternatives to exclusionary discipline;
- Strong coaching, facilitation, presentation, consultation, and relationship‑building skills with adults and students;
- Ability to analyze discipline, attendance, climate, training, and implementation data and translate findings into actionable recommendations;
- Ability to develop clear training materials, implementation tools, communication resources, and activity plans;
- Excellent organization, documentation, project coordination, and time‑management skills;
- Ability to influence practice and build shared ownership without direct supervisory authority;
- High emotional intelligence, cultural responsiveness, sound professional judgment, and the ability to maintain confidentiality;
- Ability to prioritize support based on student need, school data, and district goals.
Performance Responsibilities
- Supports districtwide implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of violence‑prevention, restorative, trauma‑informed, de‑scalation, and proactive behavior practices aligned with Project Prevent goals;
- Plans and facilitates professional‑learning cohorts for teachers, school leaders, counselors, social workers, paraprofessionals, climate and culture leads, and other support staff;
- Designs and delivers professional learning in restorative practices, trauma‑informed supports, de‑scalation, classroom behavior prevention, student regulation, conflict resolution, and related prevention strategies;
- Develops training materials, facilitation guides, implementation tools, model resources, and follow‑up supports that promote consistent school‑based practice;
- Conducts regular school visits to observe implementation, identify needs, and provide onsite coaching and technical assistance;
- Coaches teachers and school leaders in proactive classroom practices, relationship‑building, routines, regulation supports, and responses that reduce escalation and preserve instructional time;
- Supports schools in strengthening universal Tier 1 behavior, climate, and prevention systems aligned with MTSS, PBIS, restorative practices, attendance, and student wellness priorities;
- Assists school teams with planning, implementing, and monitoring appropriate Tier 2 prevention and early‑intervention supports within the position's professional scope;
- Supports school leaders in using prevention strategies and alternatives to exclusionary discipline to reduce office referrals, suspensions, removals, and repeated behavioral incidents;
- Supports development and implementation of student conflict‑resolution, peer‑support, relationship‑repair, and restorative response systems;
- Assists schools with development of supportive re‑entry plans for students returning after suspension, significant incidents, or other disruptions to school participation;
- Coordinates and supports school and district prevention activities required by Project Prevent, including schedules, materials, communication, participation, and follow‑up;
- Supports planning and implementation of summer social‑emotional learning and prevention programming, including curriculum, activities, student engagement, staffing coordination, and logistics;
- Collaborates with school teams, Student Support & Empowerment staff, families, and community partners to coordinate prevention supports and strengthen school climate;
- Tracks professional‑learning participation, coaching contacts, school implementation progress, program participation, and completion of assigned grant deliverables;
- Reviews discipline, attendance, climate, and implementation trends to identify needs, prioritize support, and recommend action steps;
- Collects and maintains accurate documentation and evidence required for program monitoring, evaluation, grant reporting, and continuous improvement;
- Communicates implementation progress, accomplishments, barriers, and recommended adjustments to Project Prevent and district leadership;
- Maintains current knowledge of evidence‑based prevention practices and applicable district, state, federal, and grant requirements;
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Project Prevent or Executive Director of Student Support & Empowerment.
