Job summary

HeartShare is seeking a Behavioral Intervention Specialist to support Brooklyn residential programs. You will oversee behavioral services, conduct FBAs, and develop Behavior Support Plans and Medication Monitoring Plans to address challenging behaviors.

You will train Direct Support Professionals on behavior plans, interventions, and other mental health topics, and implement SCIP-R as needed. Thorough documentation and cross-site reporting are required.

Qualifications

  • Must have a Master's degree in psychology, social work, school psychology, or applied psychology related to human development and clinical interventions.
  • National Board Certification in Behavior Analysis (BCBA) and a Master's in behavior analysis, or a NY State license in mental health counseling as alternatives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee behavioral services in residential programs, including FBA, BSPs, and Medication Monitoring Plans.
  • Provide training to Direct Support Professionals on behavior plans, interventions, and mental health topics.
  • Prepare written reports for treating psychiatrists and maintain thorough records and data interpretation.
  • Conduct regular reviews and observations, and support multiple sites under OPWDD guidance.

Job description

The ideal candidate for the BIS position will work in our residential programs located in Brooklyn. The selected candidate will be responsible for oversight of all behavioral services including conducting the Functional Behavioral Analysis, development of Behavior Support Plans and Medication Monitoring Plans to address challenging behaviors and analyzing data collection. The BIS will provide oversight of psychiatric medications, providing written reports to the treating psychiatrist. Required to provide training to direct support professionals on behavior plans, appropriate interventions, and other topics related to behavior, mental health, and psychology. The BIS will implement SCIP-R interventions as necessary.Conduct annual and semi-annual IDT reviews of individuals to report on their behavioral needs and progressDevelop and implement behavior support plans and intervention strategies for individuals in accordance with OPWDD regulations and in accordance with the agency's vision of positive behavioral supports and teaching alternative appropriate behaviors, which foster maximal behavioral independenceTrain and monitor Direct Support Professionals in consistently implementing these behavior support plans and intervention strategiesPrepare and conduct training/in-services for individual and facility-related issues, behavior interventions, etc.Conduct regular observations of activities in the residence and provide written reports to the Residence ManagerProvide written reports to treating psychiatrists regarding behavioral progressKeep excellent and complete records of all written work. Complete all written reports and documentation in a timely mannerCollect, interpret data, and generate required reportsProvide weekly status updates on each program to Director of Behavioral and Speech ServicesProvide services for multiple sitesMaster's degree from a program in a clinical or treatment field of psychology, social work, school psychology, or applied psychology as it relates to human development and clinical interventions, and documented training in assessment techniques and behavior support plan development; OR a National Board certification in Behavior analysis (BCBA)and a Master's degree in behavior analysis or a field closely related to clinical or community psychology that is approved by OPWDD; OR a New York State license in mental health counseling.Must meet OPWDDs BIS Qualifications.Excellent communication, teaching, and modeling skills.Excellent verbal and written abilitiesMust be able to prioritize multiple tasks and must possess excellent verbal and written skillsBenefitsAt HeartShare we offer a comprehensive benefit package based on full-time/part-time status.
