Job summary

Summary

To create an environment within the school that is favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for education, in accordance with each pupil's ability; to establish good relationships with parents and other staff members.

Qualification Requirements

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor degree with required certification
  • Master in Social Work, preferred
  • Individuals with relevant social work type experience will receive extra consideration.
  • Excellent reasoning ability.
  • Understanding of mathematical concepts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Support staff in teaching and implementing de-escalation strategies
  2. Create a climate where students and teachers are proactive problem solvers, shifting from reactive crisis response
  3. Familiarity with and ability to employ Conscious Discipline and Restorative Practices strategies
  4. Observation of staff and students appropriately using de-escalation strategies
  5. Collecting data of students independently resolving (or de-escalating) negative interactions without adult interventions
  6. Create an environment that significantly reduces the number of suspensions, monitoring that reduction occurs each month.
  7. Facilitating understanding of the correlation between behavior, problem resolution and academic success in the classroom/school with parents, students and staff
  8. Develop wellness plans for students
  9. Work with the principal to provide periodic training sessions during staff meeting time to refresh staff’s understanding of wellness protocols and to discuss school wide behavior trends
  10. Work with principal and classroom teachers to identify when and where students are having the greatest difficulty interacting appropriately
  11. Meet regularly in small groups with students who are more frequently engaged in disputes
