Job summary

The Seattle YMCA is hiring part‑time BASE instructors to guide elementary students through sports, arts, STEM and hands‑on learning at multiple elementary sites. This onsite role emphasizes teamwork, safety and positive student experiences, with hours Monday–Friday mornings and afternoons.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years or older to apply.
• 1-2 years’ experience with children; camps, childcare, tutoring, or nannying.
• Ability to model and demonstrate YMCA values: caring, respect, responsibility and honesty.
• Experience planning and implementing group activities.
• TB tests and MMR vaccination required; Concentra options at no cost to you.
• High school diploma or equivalent, or be currently enrolled in high school or an equivalent education program.
• Completion of minimum STARS training, CPR/First Aid Training
• Cleared MERIT background check.
• Knowledge of diverse populations and willingness to learn languages other than English may be helpful.

Responsibilities

• Implements culturally relevant and developmentally appropriate activities within the curriculum in accordance with the Youth Development goals of the YMCA.
• Supervises a group of children to ensure their health and safety and to provide for a positive experience for each child.
• May provide guidance to staff/volunteers overseeing the activities of groups of children.
• Professionally communicates day‑to‑day, confidential and evaluative information with parents/guardians.
• Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
• Assists in maintaining developmentally appropriate site including appearance, décor and cleanliness of site.
• May prepare and serve snacks. Cleans snack area.
• Attends staff meetings and trainings as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

In this role, you will guide elementary age participants through sports, arts, STEM, and other hands‑on learning activities at a Y Before and After‑School Enrichment (BASE) program which is designed to provide a safe and caring place for students outside of the classroom. You will help teach teamwork and social emotional learning to kids as they grow and learn all while encouraging skill building, creative exploration, physical activity, and most of all, fun.

BASE instructors will start 8/24.

Hiring for the following Locations

Blackwell Elementary, Dickinson Elementary, McAuliffe Elementary, Alcott Elementary, Mead Elementary, Smith Elementary

*This is a Part‑Time Onsite Position.

Hours Vary by School/Location:
Monday – Friday 6:45am – Start of School
Monday – Friday End of School – 6pm

The Y provides full day programming on non‑school days and early release days.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.

Qualifications
