Job summary

Elanco invites current veterinary students to join the Beef Veterinarian Intern program for Summer 2027. You will work within the Beef Unit to provide technical guidance, perform a summer health project, and mentor skills in communication, analytics, and market research.

Travel is required for customer visits, with field-based locations across the United States. The program emphasizes mentorship, housing support, and a pathway to possible future opportunities within animal health.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program at an accredited veterinary school and in good standing, having completed your first or second year
  • Strong interest in beef production medicine and animal health
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills; ability to work independently and in a team; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to customers on Elanco's portfolio, including anti-infectives, vaccines, and parasiticides
  • Define and deliver an owned project related to the beef product portfolio and its use
  • Identify and evaluate beef sector account growth opportunities through market research
  • Build and maintain relationships with veterinary clinics and act as liaison with the veterinary community
  • Collaborate with Territory/District Managers and other technical consultants to gain insights
  • Present project findings and potential business impact to US Farm Animal leadership

Your Role: Beef Veterinarian Intern - US Farm Animal (Summer 2027)

As a Summer 2027 US Farm Animal Beef Veterinarian Intern with Elanco Animal Health, you will join the Beef Unit, working alongside experienced professionals to provide technical expertise and support to our customers while delivering on a significant summer animal health project. Through hands‑on experience and expert mentorship, you will advance your clinical skills, strengthen your communication and interpersonal skills, gain exposure to business analytics and market research, explore research opportunities within the beef sector, and receive career development guidance within the animal health industry.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support and guidance to customers on Elanco's packaged goods portfolio, including anti‑infectives, vaccines, and parasiticides, covering product information, usage recommendations, and best practices.
  • Define, execute, and deliver on an owned project centered on a specific area of the product portfolio and its use. Projects may include parasite management and product use strategies for beef operations, disease monitoring programs that use population sampling to track prevalence and occurrence, priority account targeting to identify underserved accounts, internal tools such as necropsy guides and training aids, or health and performance outcome reports using Benchmark data systems.
  • Identify and evaluate account growth opportunities within the beef sector, conducting market research and analysis to find potential new clients and expand existing relationships.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with veterinary clinics, acting as a liaison between Elanco and the veterinary community to foster collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • Partner with Territory/District Managers, Key Account Managers, Veterinarian Technical Consultants, and Nutritionist Technical Consultants to gain insight into account management, technical advising, and industry best practices.
  • Present your project findings, recommendations, and potential business impact to relevant US Farm Animal leadership.
What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications):
  • Education: Currently enrolled in a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program at an accredited veterinary school and in good standing, having completed your first or second year
  • Experience: Strong interest in beef production medicine and animal health
  • Top Skills: Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
