  • Prefer 6 months to 1 year experience in sports/recreation.
  • Must communicate effectively with children, parents, school staff and YMCA staff.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead participant sports and recreation activities; monitor field/gym.
  • May keep score and officiate games.
  • Communicate with parents as YMCA representative.
  • Know the program schedule, routine and rules.
  • Ensure participant safety and provide first aid.
  • Encourage teamwork and positive reinforcement.
  • Maintain cleanliness and upkeep of facility, equipment, supplies.
  • Follow pick-up and check-out procedures for youth participants.
  • Model YMCA values.
  • Report suspected child abuse to supervisor.
  • Report illness or injury of a child or staff as required by YMCA policies.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Provides support, instruction and motivation for participants on sports and recreation programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Plan and lead a participant sports and recreation activities, monitor field and/or gym.
  • May keep score and officiate for games.
  • Communicate with parents of the children as a YMCA representative.
  • Have a working knowledge of the program's schedule, routine and rules.
  • Responsible for group’s safety and first aid.
  • Incorporate positive reinforcement and encourage teamwork with participants.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep of facility, property, supplies and equipment.
  • Follow the pick-up and check out procedures for youth participants.
  • Model YMCA values.
  • Report suspected child abuse to supervisor.
  • Report any illness or injury of a child or staff as required by YMCA polices.
  • Attend all staff meetings and training’s.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
