Qualifications

• Experience writing and editing in AP style.
• Strong social media skills to engage audiences.
• Excellent written and oral communication; able to interact with readers and public daily.
• Ability to react quickly to breaking news and manage deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Lead the newsroom as an editor, setting coverage strategy and guiding reporters and interns.
• Produce story ideas from the assigned beat or through community conversations.
• Deep-dive into Beaufort County public policy to craft informative and impactful stories.
• Cover business and arts communities, reporting on individuals, organizations and trends shaping the area.
• Issue FOIAs strategically to enhance reporting and use results in published articles.
• Coordinate assignments and schedules with editors; keep stakeholders informed.
• Engage the community through social media and digital platforms.
• Develop and maintain photo and digital storytelling skills.
• Ensure factual accuracy, tone, and adherence to libel rules in all work.
• Learn and use all department systems and policies; meet deadlines.
• Build a diverse list of knowledgeable sources for reporting.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
