Job summary

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan seeks a BI Analyst in Grand Rapids/Detroit to analyze business processes with leadership and design, develop, and maintain complex databases and reporting tools for the Claims division. The role focuses on improving efficiency through data-driven decisions.

The analyst will work with Facets and Macess EXP data, build SSRS reports, and support decision making through ad hoc queries, documentation, and training.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS or related field.
• Two years experience in health care with exposure to claims, systems analysis, and design or database development.
• Experience with relational databases, structured system programming, and coding schemes, structured Query language, Object oriented programming (Microsoft Access or Visual Basic), systems development life cycle application, SSRS required.
• Leadership and/or analyst experience required with demonstrated experience in operational analysis, data analysis, and problem resolution type projects and activities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Job description

Location: Grand Rapids or Detroit

Responsible for analyzing business processes and/or reporting; designs, develops, and maintains complex software applications and reports used by the Claims division to improve department efficiency and support business decision making.

• Understand business processes in conjunction with leadership to design, develop, implement, and maintain complex Microsoft Access or other designated software databases and applications used to support and improve daily departmental/divisional operations.
• Work with leadership to understand Macess EXP or other designated software reporting needs to design, develop, implement, and maintain complex SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports used to support business decision making.
• Analyze and develop specifications utilizing business input; develop and generate ad hoc reporting requests related to Facets and Macess EXP data.
• Generate timely and accurate operational reports and extracts for inventory, processing, and operational measurements. Refresh background supportive data tables timely.
• Document and communicate project concepts, milestones, and results.
• Recommend and assist with implementing existing and new policies and procedures.
• Participate in systems testing, develop procedures/controls, and provide recommendations for ongoing improvement of updated processes.
• Assist internal and external entities through inquiry response, supplying information, and training.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with related business partners.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related field preferred.
• Two (2) years of experience in health care or related field with exposure to claims, systems analysis, and design or database development required.
• Experience with relational databases, structured system programming, and coding schemes, structured Query language, Object oriented programming (Microsoft Access or Visual Basic), systems development life cycle application, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) required.
• Leadership and/or analyst experience required with demonstrated experience in operational analysis, data analysis, and problem resolution type projects and activities.
• Ability to plan, organize, and control projects.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to lead and contribute to related projects.
• Demonstrated knowledge of general statistics, Microsoft Office Suite Software, and related PC or mainframe applications.
• Other related skills and/or abilities may be required to perform this job.

Departmental Preferences:

• Experience in systems reporting and a solid understanding of database development, testing, and integration methodologies is preferred.
• Some project management experience preferred.
• Accuracy and attention to detail is preferred.
• Preferred SSIS, SQL, Microsoft Power Platform and AI experience for analytics involving conversational, natural language interaction and automated workflows for data reporting is preferred.
• Ability to develop, maintain and support existing reporting tools, automation solutions, dashboards and related processes is preferred.
