Job summary

FXI, Fort Wayne facility, is seeking a Baumer Assistant (BSV-1) to support foam production on-site. The role requires operating towmotors, reading production orders, and maintaining material flow across the line.

You will work with a team under a Production Supervisor and participate in safety and quality programs. The position entails lifting up to 50 lbs, reading measuring tools, and learning to operate cranes and computerized equipment.

Qualifications

• Experience with tow motors and forklift safety.
• Ability to read production orders and operate powered equipment.
• Physically capable of lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for long periods.

Responsibilities

• Identify, measure, tag, bag, label and store all foam brands per production orders.
• Maintain smooth material flow from slitter to felt press.
• Get qualified on overhead crane.
• Read hand mikes, tape measures and air gauges.
• Operate computerized equipment.
• Set up machine conditions for high quality and output.
• Operate towmotors to stage or move material.
• Inspect foam through machine center records quality and quantity.

Site Overview:

Our Fort Wayne facility is a union manufacturing plant with approximately 155 employees operating on three shifts. The site is a pouring and specialized post‑processing operation. Capabilities include pouring, fabricating, felting, reticulation (2 styles) and block. As a key location within FXI's manufacturing network, the Fort Wayne plant is known for its strong focus on quality, safety, and operational excellence. Team members work in a collaborative, supportive environment where continuous improvement and innovation play a central role. This is a union position that works 1st shift 7am-3pm with overtime possible.

Key Responsibilities

Mark identification, measures, tags, bags, labels and stores all brands of foam as called for to complete the production cycle.

Must be able to maintain a smooth flow of material from the slitter to the felt press as needed.

Must get qualified on overhead crane.

Must be able to quickly read hand mikes, tape measures, and air gauges.

Must be able to learn and operate computerized equipment.

Must be able to write legibly, use a calculator and have a basic knowledge of math.

Operates towmotors (fork truck) to stage material or move material to its next step.

The assistant will need to operate the machine and qualify.

Set up machine conditions accurately in order to maintain a high quality and maximum quantity of foam to be slit.

Reads, understands and applies instructions contained on each production order to be processed. Inspects all foam through machine center records quality & quantity of each item.

Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Skills / Qualifications

Right-to-know, towmotor safe operation, emergency response training, safety glasses, gloves, protective clothing.

Lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, stooping, climbing, walking, and standing on concrete floors for prolonged periods.

Ambient non‑air conditioned working atmosphere with occasional blasts of air in the winter from open doors in the loft storage area.

Need knowledge in towmotors, tape measures, calculator, hand & air mikes, pneumatic poly bag fasteners, and hand trucks.
