Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare cells for testing — inspect incoming samples, record cell IDs and baseline measurements (open-circuit voltage, AC impedance, weight, and dimensions), and install cells in test fixtures for tests such as HPPC, rate mapping, and aging.
  • Connect power cables, voltage sense leads, and thermocouples, and load test schedules onto battery cyclers and environmental chambers per written test procedures.
  • Verify each setup before starting a test, including connections, sensor readings, channel assignments, and safety limits.
  • Monitor running tests, identify and report anomalies such as unexpected voltage, temperature, or channel faults, and elevate safety concerns immediately.
  • Unload cells when tests finish and safely store, quarantine, or dispose of them according to lab procedures.
  • Perform routine maintenance and checks on cyclers, chambers, and other lab equipment, and flag issues to engineers.
  • Maintain accurate test logs, cell tracking records, and lab documentation so every result can be traced to its cell, setup, and test conditions.
  • Export and organize test data, and assist engineers with data collection as needed.
  • Keep the lab organized, clean, and compliant with safety procedures, and suggest improvements to fixtures, procedures, and workflows.
  • Perform any additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hands-on experience in a lab, manufacturing, or technician role, including working with electrical equipment and following written procedures.

  • Experience handling lithium-ion cells in a lab or research setting is a plus.
  • Comfort using software tools, including Excel macros or AI assistants such as Claude, to organize test data and streamline lab tasks is a plus.
  • Ability to follow written test procedures to accurately install cells in fixtures, connect cables and thermocouples, and load test schedules onto cyclers and chambers.
  • Willingness to learn and perform routine upkeep of cyclers and lab equipment, including channel checks, cable and fixture inspection, and basic troubleshooting of connections and sensors.
  • Commitment to lab safety when handling lithium-ion cells, including proper PPE use, awareness of thermal and electrical hazards, and safe storage and handling practices.
  • Knowledge of common cell tests (capacity, rate capability, HPPC, cycle life, and calendar life) is a plus.
  • Basic electrical skills, including multimeter use, crimping, wiring, and soldering, are a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to log cell IDs, test conditions, and results accurately.
  • Ability to manage multiple tests at once, prioritize workload based on changing needs, and adapt to shifting test priorities.
  • Ability to report test status and anomalies clearly and promptly, both verbally and in writing.
  • Flexibility to occasionally work outside normal hours to support long-duration tests.
