Pivotal is seeking a hands-on Battery Test Engineer for the Battery Engineering team in Palo Alto, CA. You will own the design and execution of performance characterization, thermal-runaway, abuse, environmental, and durability tests at cell and pack levels.

You will operate high-power cyclers and environmental chambers, document test results, and translate data into actionable design improvements. This role requires on-site work at our HQ and a strong commitment to safety and data integrity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field and at least 3 years of battery testing experience.
• Experience designing instrumented tests and selecting measurement hardware.
• Knowledge of lithium-ion battery hazards and safe test operations.
• Ability to troubleshoot instrumentation and data-quality issues.

Responsabilités

• Own test planning and hands-on execution for lithium-ion cells and battery packs.
• Characterize electrical and thermal performance of cell candidates and prototype packs.
• Operate high-power battery cyclers, cell cyclers, and environmental chambers.
• Deliver datasets to the simulation team and support model-versus-test comparisons.
• Design and run thermal-runaway tests and related safety experiments.
• Develop environmental and durability tests across temperature, humidity, vibration, and altitude.
• Define objectives, instrumentation needs, data acquisition, triggers, and acceptance criteria.
• Prepare test articles, fixtures, chambers, cooling, sensors, and data systems.
• Lead test readiness reviews and coordinate with EHS and facilities.
• Execute tests safely and monitor in real time.
• Analyze temperature, voltage, current, pressure, gas, and other indicators.
• Author test plans and reports, root-cause analyses, and design recommendations.
• Support model correlation and work with design engineers on containment and cooling.
• Manage external test laboratories and review supplier data.
• Maintain calibrated instrumentation and data traceability.
