Role Summary

As a Battery Lab Technician within Rivian’s Battery Test and Validation team, you will provide critical support for daily lab operations and testing activities. Operating within the Battery Lab, you will act as a core enabler, focusing on tasks that keep our fast-paced lab environment running efficiently.

In this role, you will apply your acquired job skills to execute assigned tasks, such as supporting battery teardowns, instrumenting test articles, and handling lab logistics. You will be expected to reliably follow established procedures and company policies on routine work, while receiving clear instructions on newly introduced assignments. By maintaining a strong attention to detail and recognizing when a deviation from an accepted practice is necessary, you will help ensure high-quality data collection and a safe, organized laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

• Teardown Support: Safely support the physical teardown of battery packs, modules, and components by following established procedures and work instructions
• Instrumentation: Assist with the instrumentation of test articles for routine work (e.g., thermocouple creation and installation, basic wiring) under the guidance of engineers or senior technicians
• Lab Operations & Logistics: Support daily lab operations, including material handling, shipping/receiving logistics, external storage organization, and maintaining 5S culture across the facility
• Process Feedback: Execute semi-routine assignments and recognize obvious needs for deviations in the instructions, proactively providing feedback to the requestor or supervisor
• Safety & Compliance: Maintain a clean, safe work environment by strictly adhering to Rivian policies, lab safety standards, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or trade school certification in a related technical field is a plus
• Typically requires a minimum of 1 to 2 years of related experience in a hands‑on technical, operational, or lab environment
• Ability to apply acquired job skills and company policies to complete assigned semi‑routine tasks
• Ability to follow established procedures on routine work and absorb instructions on new assignments
• Strong organizational skills, mechanical aptitude, and attention to detail
• Ability to safely perform physical work, including lifting and material handling
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively collaborate with engineers and fellow technicians

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience working with or assembling/disassembling electrical or mechanical systems (experience with battery packs or high‑voltage systems is a strong plus)
• Familiarity with basic lab instrumentation or hand tools (e.g., multimeters, wire strippers, basic fabrication)
• Previous experience operating within a 5S workspace or handling inventory/logistics
• Basic understanding of lab safety protocols (e.g., LOTO, PPE requirements

Pay Disclosure

The hourly range for this role is USD 32.49 - 36.10 for California based applicants. This is the lowest to highest hourly we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the hourly range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs.

The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus.
