Eaton is seeking a Battery Systems Validation Engineer in Raleigh to support engineering teams in developing UPS power systems and accessories. The role focuses on assembling, testing, and validating batteries, BMS, and control systems to ensure safe, reliable performance in data centers and institutions.

The candidate will perform charge/discharge, thermal, and functional tests, configure BMS, and troubleshoot communications.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three years of experience with electrical power systems, batteries, UPS systems, or related engineering/technical roles.
  • Knowledge of UPS battery fundamentals including lead‑acid and lithium‑ion technologies and BMS operation.
  • Ability to work near energized electrical hazards with arc‑flash PPE and insulated tools.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, inspect, configure, and commission UPS battery cabinets, modules, busbars, fuses, breakers, harnesses, and monitoring components.
  • Execute charge/discharge, runtime, functional, thermal, communications, balancing, and commissioning tests.
  • Configure Battery Management Systems (BMS) and troubleshoot Modbus, CANBus, Ethernet, and RS-485 communications.
  • Use electrical test equipment and data-acquisition systems to record results and prepare test reports.
  • Troubleshoot battery modules, BMS components, controls, sensors, and UPS integration using schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Perform authorized work on energized battery systems using PPE and safe-work procedures; maintain a safe test lab.

Job description

Eaton’s ES AMER ESS division is currently seeking a Battery Systems Validation Engineer.

The Lead Validation Engineering Technician is an exciting role providing technical support for engineering teams in the development of new Eaton power system products and accessories. This role will support 3-phase UPS ( Uninterrupted Power Supplies) products typically utilized in commercial data centers and institutions.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $56000 - $83000 a year.

What You’ll Do
  • Assemble, inspect, configure, and commission UPS battery cabinets, modules, busbars, fuses, breakers, communication harnesses, and monitoring components
  • Execute charge/discharge, runtime, functional, thermal, communications, balancing, and commissioning tests
  • Configure Battery Management Systems (BMS) and troubleshoot Modbus, CANBus, Ethernet, and RS-485 communications
  • Use electrical test equipment and data-acquisition systems to record results and prepare test reports
  • Troubleshoot battery modules, BMS components, controls, sensors, and UPS integration using schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Perform authorized work on energized battery systems using required PPE, insulated tools, safe-work boundaries, and hazard controls; maintain an organized and safe test lab
Qualifications
Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience with electrical power systems, batteries, UPS systems, industrial controls, or a related engineering/technical role.
  • Working knowledge of UPS battery fundamentals, including lead‑acid and lithium‑ion technologies, battery strings and cabinets, charging/discharging, basic BMS operation, and high-energy DC hazards.
  • Willing and able to work on or near energized electrical hazards using required arc‑flash PPE, electrical gloves, insulated tools, barricades, and authorized safe‑work procedures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Experience with low voltage electrical systems.
  • Understanding of electronic circuit theory and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with component parametric evaluation.
  • Use of electronic test instrumentation.
  • Experience with setup and test for product certifications.
  • Electromechanical prototype fabrication experience.
  • PCBA rework, modification and soldering techniques.
  • Knowledge of basic electricity.
  • Collaborative orientation.
  • Previous experience/knowledge with UPS and/or power electronic products.
  • Previous Coursework in power electronics .
  • Lab experience around high voltage where safety awareness is critical.
  • Must possess effective and verbal communications skills.
  • Must possess good organizational and prioritization skills to maintain and address multiple assigned projects and expectations.
