Job summary

Riverdale YM-YWHA is seeking a Part-Time Basketball Coach to coach a youth program for ages 9–14. You will plan and run practices, teach fundamentals, and develop age-appropriate drills and games in a safe, welcoming environment.

Responsibilities include providing constructive feedback, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship, and maintaining equipment and facility safety. Schedule is Tue/Wed evenings, 4 hours weekly, at Riverdale Y facilities.

Qualifications

• Previous basketball coaching or playing experience preferred.
• Experience working with youth ages 9–14 preferred.
• Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively with children of different skill levels.
• Ability to create a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment.
• CPR/First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain certification.
• Must be dependable, responsible, and able to follow all youth program and facility safety policies.

• Teach fundamental basketball skills, including dribbling, passing, shooting, defense, rebounding, and footwork.
• Develop and lead age-appropriate drills, activities, and games.
• Encourage teamwork, sportsmanship, respect, and positive behavior.
• Provide constructive feedback and support to help participants improve their skills.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming practice environment.
• Monitor participants and address safety or behavioral concerns appropriately.
• Serve as a positive role model for participants.
• Communicate professionally with parents/guardians and program staff.
• Follow all Riverdale Y policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
• Assist with maintaining equipment and ensuring the basketball area is clean and organized.

Schedule

• Days: Tuesday and Wednesday
• Hours: 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
• Total Hours: 4 hours per week
• Age Group: Youth ages 9-14

Salary

$35-40 per hour
