Job summary

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Renders basic life support procedures to patients per protocols.
  • May work 12- to 48-hour shifts, on-call and standby during events.
  • Provides accurate oral reports to medical personnel.
  • Transports patients to healthcare facilities.
  • Directs patient care in coordination with EMS and other agencies.
  • Performs patient assessments, vital signs, CPR, defibrillation, and airway management.
  • Completes patient care records legibly and timely.
  • Maintains safety and infection control practices.
  • Mentors staff and maintains readiness according to MRH policies.

Position-Specific Performance Expectations, Duties, and Responsibilities:
  • Renders basic life support procedures to patients in a variety of settings consistent with state and local operating protocols.
  • Ability toworka variety of shift lengths that may include12-48 hourshifts, on-call shifts, and standby/special eventsof varying hours.
  • Ability to provideaccurateoral reports todesignatedmedical personnel.
  • Assistsin extricating trapped victims.
  • Transportssick and injured persons to theappropriate healthcare facility.
  • Mustpossessthe ability to read, understand,and converse in the English language, road maps,and accurately discern street signs and address numbers.
  • Mustpossessthe ability to use goodjudgmentand remain calm in high-stress situations and work in an environment with loud noises and flashing lights.
  • Lifts and places patients onastretcher, restrains patients appropriately, lifts and movesaloaded stretcher intoanambulance while always practicing safe lifting procedures.
  • Performs airway interventions, vital signs, blood glucose measurement,patient-specifictreatments, monitoring,and interventions,including but not limited to: CPR, defibrillation, medication administration, and mechanical ventilation, as per Moffat County EMS Protocols.
  • Observes, records, and reportspatients’conditions, andreactionsto drugs, treatments, and significant incidentsto physician or Registered Nurse.
  • Directs and coordinates patient care with otheragency(i.e.,fire and police) personnel and other employees.
  • Drives ambulance to and from emergency and non-emergency scenes in a mannerappropriate todispatch direction, patient condition,andin accordance withdriving laws,at all timesconsidering due regard for the safety of self and others.
  • Communicates withthe physicianand other medical personnel via radio or telephone.
  • Completes all reports, including patient care records, legibly, accurately, and bytheend of shift or end of every 24-hour period asrequiredper CDPHE.
  • Completes daily assigned choresduring each shift,including vehicle inspection, Operative IQ, etc.
  • Performs all duties in a safe, courteous, confidential,and professional manner, alwaystaking into accountthe well-being of the patient.
  • Mentors, trains, andencouragesfellow staff as needed, to help themattaintheir full potential.
  • Maintains response readiness consistent with Moffat County’s response criteria.
  • Uses safety and PPE equipment as required by law and EMS Department policies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Completes all required annual education, training, in-services, and licensure/certification updates; activelyparticipatesin departmental and organizational meetings or reviews meeting minutes asrequired.
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work punctually andcompletesassigned duties within establishedtimeframes.
  • Actively contributes to departmental and organization-wide performance improvement and continuous quality initiatives.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements,maintainingadherence to departmental, hospital, state, and federal standards and policies.
  • Follows all infection control, safety, and risk management procedures tomaintaina safe environment for patients, the public, and staff.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must successfully pass a background check.
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and breath alcohol test (if applicable).
  • Must complete an Employee Health meeting prior to starting employment.
  • Mustpossessa clean driving record and pass a Motor Vehicle Records Check and meet insurability Guidelines (if applicable) – see below:
  • Must not have three (3) or more violations in three years
  • Must not have any of the following violations, regardless of thetime period:
  • Homicide involving a vehicle
  • Using a vehicle to elude an officer
  • Hit and run
  • Manslaughter with a vehicle
  • Felony with a vehicle
  • False report to police department
  • Permittingan unlicensed driver to drive
  • Any two or more preventable accidents in 3 years – a preventable accident is any traffic accident which results in property damage and/or personal injury, regardless of who was injured, what property was damaged, to what extent, or where it occurred, in which the driver in question failed to exercise every reasonable precaution or action to avoid the accident. Driving to avoid preventable accidents is defensive driving. The fact that the driver was not charged with a traffic violation by law enforcement is not a part of our definition.
  • Any driver convicted of any of the following within the last five years:
  • Any alcohol ordrug-relatedoffense,including, but not limited to, driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
