Job summary

Liberty Personnel Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced BAS/HVAC Controls Technician to support commercial facilities across Central and Northern New Jersey.

You will troubleshoot and service BAS/DDC platforms, read schematics, and coordinate with facilities teams to maintain system reliability. The role requires 2+ years in BAS or HVAC controls, experience with Johnson Controls or Niagara platforms, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• 2+ years in Building Automation, DDC, HVAC Controls, or a related field.
• Experience with Johnson Controls Metasys, FX, CCT, and/or Niagara N4.
• Strong troubleshooting of DDC controls, sensors, actuators, and field devices.
• Solid understanding of commercial HVAC systems and equipment.
• Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, LON, or other building-system protocols.
• Ability to read electrical schematics, control drawings, and sequences of operation.
• Programming, commissioning, system integration, or graphics experience is a plus.
• Excellent communication and customer-focused approach.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally in Central & Northern New Jersey.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair BAS and HVAC controls in commercial facilities.
• Support Johnson Controls, Niagara N4, and other DDC platforms.
• Diagnose issues with controllers, sensors, actuators, wiring, and communications.
• Perform startup, commissioning, point-to-point checkout, and troubleshooting.
• Make controller programming and graphics changes as needed.
• Support BACnet, Modbus, and third-party integrations.
• Work with AHUs, RTUs, VAVs, chillers, boilers, and related equipment.
• Read and interpret control drawings and sequences of operation.
• Assist with system upgrades, retrofits, and optimization projects.
• Collaborate with customers and facility teams to resolve issues and ensure reliability.
• Complete service documentation and provide technical recommendations.

What You'll Be Doing

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair Building Automation and HVAC control systems across commercial facilities.
• Service and support Johnson Controls, Niagara N4, and other DDC platforms.
• Diagnose issues involving controllers, sensors, actuators, control wiring, and system communications.
• Perform system startup, commissioning, point-to-point checkout, and equipment troubleshooting.
• Make controller programming adjustments, graphics modifications, and system configuration changes as needed.
• Support BACnet, Modbus, and third-party building system integrations.
• Work with commercial HVAC equipment, including AHUs, RTUs, VAV systems, chillers, boilers, and related equipment.
• Read and interpret control drawings, electrical schematics, and sequences of operation.
• Assist with system upgrades, retrofits, and building automation optimization projects.
• Work directly with customers and facility teams to resolve service issues and maintain system reliability.
• Complete service documentation and provide technical recommendations.

What We're Looking For

• 2+ years of experience in Building Automation, DDC, HVAC Controls, or a closely related field.
• Experience with Johnson Controls (Metasys, FX, CCT), Niagara AX/N4, or another major BAS platform.
• Strong troubleshooting skills involving DDC controls, controllers, sensors, actuators, and field devices.
• Solid understanding of commercial HVAC systems and equipment.
• Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, LON, or other building systems communication protocols.
• Ability to interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, and sequences of operation.
• Programming, commissioning, system integration, or graphics experience is a plus.
• Strong communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally throughout Central and Northern New Jersey.
