Job summary

Jones Lang LaSalle Incorporated in Chicago is seeking a Building Controls Technician to maintain and optimize pneumatic, electric and DDC control systems across facilities. You will troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and fine-tune equipment, support commissioning and renovations, and mentor teammates to uphold high client standards.

Qualifications

• Technical or vocational schooling with Associate Degree and 7+ years of relevant industrial experience.
• CCST Lv I certification is a plus.
• 5+ years with Honeywell/JCI DDC or Siemens.
• Limited Electrical License preferred.
• Proficient CMMS work orders, equipment history, and inventory management.
• Strong communication skills and ability to read drawings and technical manuals.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship.

What this job involves: As a Building Controls Technician, you will be the technical backbone behind the comfort, safety, and efficiency of the facilities you support. You will perform emergency repairs, preventive maintenance, and routine service work across pneumatic, electric, and DDC control systems, ensuring that temperature controls, valves, dampers, and related devices operate reliably day in and day out. Beyond keeping systems running, you will look for ways to modify and fine-tune equipment for more efficient operation, contribute to the commissioning of new and expanding control systems, and support construction and renovation projects alongside engineers, contractors, and project managers. Responsibilities:

• Perform emergency repairs, preventive maintenance work, and routine repairs on all work associated with building pneumatic, electric and DDC controls.
• Maintenance work includes service, calibration, and preventative maintenance of site temperature control thermostats, valves, humidifier diaphragms, damper operators, and various other control devices.
• Modify controls on equipment to facilitate more efficient operation.
• Review and assist with construction and installation of remote systems and expansion of existing systems. This may include assisting with documentation, commissioning, and reviewing specifications and drawings against installations.
• Generate work orders and repair for defects found during inspections.
• Provide support for co‑workers, contractors, vendors, project managers, building managers, engineers and others as necessary to support project and renovation work.
• Issue Lock Out/Tag Out permits, monitor work, and ensure work is performed in a manner consistent with established work practices and quality standards.
• Provide training to other team members to ensure continued customer support during an absence.
• Assist other trades periodically in times of need.
• May be required to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime as well as variable shifts and emergency on‑call as needed.
• Performs trouble‑shooting techniques on equipment to determine problems and effect repairs as promptly and efficiently as possible to minimize downtime.
• Diagnose and correct equipment malfunctions and/or failures utilizing service or technical manuals.
• Maintain accurate records and logs of site operations.
• Any and all other duties/tasks assigned.

Skills/Qualifications:

• Technical/Vocational schooling completed or Associate Degree 7+ years relevant industrial experience required.
• Certification CCST Lv I (a plus).
• Minimum 5 years of experience with Honeywell/JCI DDC or Siemens.
• Limited Electrical License preferred.
• Computer skills, to include CMMS work order system, update equipment history, and access parts/material inventory management system.
• Strong communication skills.
• Able to read and interpret work from drawings, written work orders, sketches, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Understands electrical theory and its application to ensure safe work practices.
• This position does not provide visa sponsorship.

Expected compensation for this position: 91,000.00 – 102,000.00 USD per year
