Summary:

A bartender serves beverages behind a bar. The work involves tending, mixing, and serving cocktails and other drinks, mainly alcoholic beverages, to guests.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Selling alcoholic drinks to guests.
  • Serving guests.
  • Recording sales and taking payments from guests.
  • Keeping the bar well stocked by maintaining beer, wine, liquor, garnishes, and glasses.
  • Refusing to serve guests who have had too much to drink.
  • Calling taxi cabs for inebriated guests.
  • Keeping records of tabs to determine how much a guest has had and what is owed.
  • Pouring drinks quickly and as per the guest’s specifications.
  • Keeping the bar clean.
  • Pours and dispenses alcoholic beverages to guests of legal age; checking IDs of guests who appear 30 years or younger.
  • Rotating and restocking bar coolers, with inventory from walk‑in cooler; restocking bar supplies such as dry goods, all glassware, juices, sodas, and garnishes.
  • Reading and filling orders from servers.
  • Greeting guests in a friendly manner, with world‑class service in mind.
  • Fulfilling carry‑out orders for guests.
  • Cashier responsibilities.
  • Performing all side duties as assigned.

Work Environment:

The work environment involves wet or humid conditions (non‑weather), 100% standing at work, work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold (non‑weather), extreme heat (non‑weather), and a usually loud noise level.

Physical Demands:

Require standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle, feel, taste or smell, occasionally sitting, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Stamina to work up to 40 hours each week, more if needed. Ability to work open, mid, and close shifts as required.
