Job Summary

The Bartender at the University of St. Thomas is responsible for providing excellent communication and service, serving cocktails and recommending menu items, ensuring a clean and stocked bar area, and handling cash and point-of-sale transactions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Count and verify stock on the stand sheet.
• Ensure bar is properly stocked and cleaned.
• Fill guest orders quickly and efficiently using POS and credit card machine.
• Verify valid identification for guests of legal drinking age.
• Encourage responsible drinking and provide safe transportation options.
• Retrieve and verify cash bag from vault.
• Use new cups for every beverage transaction.
• Complete sanitation worksheet in full.
• Complete Alcohol Incident Log whenever service is denied.
• Recount stock and enter end counts into POS.
• Record sales and deposit money on stand sheet.
• Keep bar area clean.
• Requisition stock for next event.
• Report earned tips in time clock.
• Stand for long periods and engage physically with guests.
• Reach with hands and arms for one‑third to two‑thirds or more of the shift.
• Stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl as required.
• React with physical and mental alertness in emergencies.
• Maintain stamina and agility to be mobile throughout the day.
• Lift/move materials and equipment up to 50 pounds.
• Move from sitting to standing quickly and easily.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Must have 1‑3 years’ experience in a similar setting. Previous cash handling experience preferred. The candidate should have an outgoing personality, communicate effectively in English, and be able to problem‑solve and make decisions with little guidance.
