Position Summary

We maintain high expectations for our bartenders. Traditionally, they are the most knowledgeable and seasoned employees in the Front of House. Blue Plate also knows that many bartenders have an ego, an attitude, a je ne sais quoi. The best ones usually do. We want you to want to be the best. Take that edge and turn it into a great experience for the guest.

  • Pay attention to the little things – your guests will appreciate it whether they realize it or not
  • Keep your body language open
  • Multi-task!
  • Have a positive attitude! Yes, you can still do this and have that bartender swagger.
  • Smile. Non-negotiable.
Bartender Performance Standards
Salesmanship – Creating the Bar
  • Be genuine. No script. Show your personality.
  • Your guests should know your name – because you introduced yourself and not because they read it on the check.
  • You should ask the names of your guests – build a rapport.
  • Create a new regular every day!
  • Having complete awareness of the atmosphere – Music, Attitude, Lights and Temperature – are your guests comfortable? Is it too bright? Too dim? Is it super humid outside and the inside temp is 80 degrees? Are your guests wearing their coats? Be aware and adjust accordingly.
  • What’s going on? In the neighborhood, current events, sports, local events, company events
  • Sell to your guest. Guide them through their experience. Give them options.
Bar Basics/Standards
  • Work like this: eyes up, make drinks to recipe, multi-task, be efficient, clean as you go, handle cash properly, pour all drinks accurately- beer, wine and spirits. Just to name a few.
Knowledge
  • You need to be the expert on: classic cocktails, your products – spirits, beers, wine, techniques, temperatures, ice. Why? Because you will be asked. By your guests, by the servers, and, by your friends.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prepare alcohol and non-alcohol beverages.
