Elgin Veterinary Hospital in Elgin, TX is seeking a Barn Worker to support daily barn operations, clean horse stalls, move hay and bedding, and stock supplies.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and maintain horse stalls, pens, and animal housing areas.
  • Remove manure, replace bedding, and maintain sanitary conditions.
  • Move hay, feed, bedding, and other supplies throughout the hospital and barn areas.
  • Stock and organize feed rooms, supply areas, and treatment spaces.
  • Perform general barn and facility cleaning, including aisles and storage areas.
  • Maintain grounds and outdoor work areas for a safe environment.
  • Feed, water, and assist daily care of hospitalized equine and bovine patients.
  • Monitor animals and communicate concerns to veterinary staff.
  • Operate basic hand tools, wheelbarrows, and cleaning tools safely.
  • Assist with routine facility upkeep and hospital operations as needed.
  • Stock and manage inventory of feed, bedding, and medical supplies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Barn Worker

Elgin Veterinary Hospital

Elgin, TX

Full-time: Monday-Friday and rotating weekends

Compensation: $15.00 per hour

About You

You enjoy physical, hands-on work and take pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment. A large portion of this role involves cleaning horse stalls, moving hay and bedding, pushing wheelbarrows, stocking supplies, and performing general barn upkeep. This role involves working outdoors in the Texas heat and other weather conditions.

This is not a horse riding, training, or primary horse-handling position. While you will work around horses and other large animals, the primary focus of the role is supporting daily barn operations and maintaining a clean, safe facility.

Your Experience & Skills
  • Large animal, ranch, farm, or agricultural experience preferred
  • Must be comfortable cleaning stalls while horses are present and working around horses of varying temperaments and sizes
  • Comfortable working in a veterinary hospital environment
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions
  • Reliable, team oriented, and able to work in fast paced environment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays
Key Responsibilities
  • Clean and maintain horse stalls, pens, and animal housing areas

  • Maintain grounds and outdoor work areas to promote a safe environment
  • Feed, water, and assist with the daily care of hospitalized equine and bovine patients
  • Monitor animals and communicate concerns regarding behavior, appetite, or condition to veterinary staff
  • Operate basic hand tools, equipment, wheelbarrows, and cleaning tools safely
  • Assist with routine facility upkeep and support hospital operations as needed
  • Stock and manage inventory of feed, bedding, and medical supplies
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Physical and Schedule Requirements

The physical requirements listed below may be performed with or without reasonable accommodation.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely perform physical barn duties, including moving supplies, cleaning stalls, and handling feed or bedding.
  • Ability to stoop, bend, and stand for extended periods of time as required by the role.
Work Environment
  • Ability to perform essential job functions outdoors in varying weather conditions (including heat, cold, rain, and icy conditions).
Schedule Requirements
  • Monday – Friday, rotating weekends, and holidays
