Job summary

America's Heartland Packing is set to open its doors in early 2025. The 775,000 sq. ft. greenfield project will include a harvest floor, carcass chillers, fabrication area, rendering, further processing area, storage coolers, freezers, and loading docks.

The Barn Worker role involves humane handling of cattle, documenting cattle received, and maintaining barn cleanliness. You will move cattle within the barn, secure gates, verify counts, and assist with ante-mortem inspections.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of safety, food safety, and animal welfare procedures.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and work around moving equipment.
  • Reliable attendance and strong work ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Will be working with live cattle.
  • Moving cattle to proper locations within the barn (ex. Truck to scale, scale to pen, pen to knock).
  • Ensure all gates are secure to prevent mixing of producer's cattle.
  • Ensure that proper documentation is kept accurate.
  • Verify cattle counts and pen locations.
  • Fill out ante-mortem inspection sheets and ensure cattle are inspected before harvest.
  • Ensure cattle have access to clean water sources.
  • Separate slow or challenged cattle and knock non-ambulatory animals when needed.
  • Communicate with Harvest Management, USDA, and Finance teams.

Overview

Job Summary

Barn workers are responsible for handling all animals humanely, proper and accurate documentation of cattle received and on site, as well as cleanliness of the barn area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Will be working with live cattle.
  • Moving cattle to proper locations within the barn (ex. Truck to scale, scale to pen, pen to knock).
  • Ensure all gates are secure to prevent mixing of producer's cattle.
  • Ensure that proper documentation is kept accurate.
  • Verify cattle counts and pen locations.
  • Properly filling out Ante-mortem inspection sheets and ensure all cattle are properly inspected prior to harvest.
  • Ensure all cattle have access to clean water sources.
  • Separate slow/ challenged cattle. Knock non-ambulatory or challenged animal.
  • Ensure good communication with Harvest Management, USDA, and the Finance team.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Must be able to work in a humid, hot, wet, slippery, or at varied heights in and around moving equipment and parts with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience/knowledge of manufacturing environment.
  • Previous heavy machinery experience in manufacturing environment.
  • Previous livestock handling/ beef production experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Always be aware of your surroundings.
  • Follow all safety, food safety, and Animal welfare procedures.
  • Be attentive to detail.
  • Ability to work safely, wear PPE, and follow instructions.
  • Ability to attend work consistently.
  • Able to stand for lengthy periods of time.
  • Display strong work ethic.
