Overview
A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Barista, you are an integral member of the team at the heart of our Cafés. You welcome customers in a cheerful and helpful way by saying hello, answering questions and connecting readers with the right beverages and café items. You help maintain attractive presentation and ensure the efficient running of the Café, including unpacking and stocking deliveries and tidying the bakes case and dining area. You work our registers in a quick and friendly manner, ensuring highly professional service. You will be trained and expected to be proficient in all operational competencies of a Barnes & Noble barista.
Responsibilities
- Unpack and stock deliveries; tidy the bakes case and dining area.
- Operate registers and provide quick, friendly, professional service.
- Develop strong merchandising and visual merchandising skills to maintain café presentation and cleanliness.
- Support the bookfloor team when needed and assist with café operations.
- Follow FIFO practices and date products consistently and correctly.
- Assist with receiving, unpacking, and stocking of deliveries.
- Make beverages and food with accuracy using available guides and tools.
- Maintain café cleanliness through daily and weekly tasks.
- Follow loss prevention procedures and de-escalation techniques; identify theft and seek support when needed.
- Understand and apply café safety, hygiene, and sanitation guidelines.

- Be flexible to cover scheduling gaps; the store is open early to late, including weekends and most holidays.

An employee in this position can expect an hourly rate starting at $16.00. Benefits include:

All this work requires physical activity including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting and a lot of walking. You may work in other stores if needed, collaboratively supporting the wider cluster.
