Job summary

Barnes & Noble College in Lexington, KY is seeking a Campus Retail Associate to deliver exceptional customer service and assist store leaders in day-to-day retail operations. You will handle sales transactions, greet customers, stock shelves, and maintain a clean, inviting store environment.

The role supports food and beverage service, displays, and safety standards. Flexible scheduling and campus-friendly hours are available; prior food handling is a plus, and a positive attitude is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 16 for temporary employment.
• Previous food handling experience preferred.
• Confident and comfortable engaging customers to deliver an elevated experience.
• Willingness to learn and excel in a fast-paced, team environment.
• Basic math, keyboarding, and data entry skills.
• Flexible availability throughout the academic year including peak periods.

Responsibilities

• Assist with processing sales transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments.
• Greet customers and focus on their positive experience during their visit.
• Support store operations including operating equipment and cash register with speed and accuracy.
• Keep the store fresh by shelving, arranging, cleaning, and organizing products or space.
• Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold food and drinks following recipes.
• Set up or restock displays, wrap, label, date, and rotate food items for sale.
• Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following cleaning and sanitation standards.
• Temporary positions require availability to work weekly for up to 90 days with occasional weekends.
• Routine housekeeping including dusting, mopping, window cleaning, vacuuming, trash removal.

Responsibilities

Expectations:

• Assist with processing sales transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments.
• Provide a friendly atmosphere by greeting customers and focusing on their positive experience throughout their visit.
• Take initiative to support store operations including operating equipment and cash register while ensuring speed of service and accurate transactions.
• Keep the store looking fresh by shelving, arranging, cleaning, and organizing products or space within the store.
• Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold food and drinks following prescribed recipes and techniques.
• Set up or restock displays, wrap, label, date, and rotate food items for sale.
• Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following cleaning, sanitation, and operational standards. Food handling or safety certification may be required in some locations.
• Temporary positions require availability to work on a weekly basis for a period of 90 days or less with occasional weekends, and flexibility in scheduling for opening, midday, or closing shifts.
• Routine housekeeping including, for example, dusting, mopping, window cleaning, vacuuming, trash removal.

Physical Demands:

• Frequent movement within the store to access various departments, areas, and/or products.
• Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods.
• Frequent lifting.
• Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.
