Job summary

Westlake Pipe & Fittings is seeking a Barcode Operator to support the barcode production line in our Tennessee facility. You will label and package plastic fittings, verify accuracy, and uphold quality standards while following safety and process guidelines.

The role requires basic math, reading comprehension in English, and the ability to work with standard manufacturing equipment. On-site work with opportunities for overtime and growth within the Barcode department.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and comprehend sufficient English to follow work instructions.
• Basic mathematical skills and counting ability.
• Reasoning ability to solve problems with available information.

Responsibilities

• Good communication and teamwork in a manufacturing setting.
• Identify plastic fittings by name, shape, and dimension.
• Meet daily output goals and maintain 100% accuracy in paperwork.
• Accurately complete barcode production line paperwork.
• Ensure proper labeling, carton and case labeling, and pallet configuration.

Summary

Barcode application and packaging of plastic fittings into customer packs for retail sales.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

This position reports directly to the Barcode Supervisor and will receive direction from the Barcode Manager or Acting Supervisor in the absence of or in conjunction with the Barcode Supervisor.

Duties

• Good communication levels and works well with others in a team environment.
• Knowledge and recognition of plastic fittings by name, shape, and dimension.
• Knowledge of daily performance goals and working to achieve 100% of targeted output.
• Completion of Daily Barcode production line paperwork accurately.
• Assuring quality of work through the proper labeling and verification of correctness for all types of barcoded fittings and their associated packaging (i.e.: labels, cartons / cases, bags, ink jet printed information, case count, and pallet configuration)
• Making of various boxes when necessary
• Good working knowledge of the set-up functions and verification of weight scales.
• Good working knowledge of all line equipment: Manual, Bagger, Auto and Semi-Auto lines
• Capable to change out Ribbon and bags on Bagger lines
• Threading of tape machines
• Scales
• Label machine
• Detection, segregation, and isolation of non-conforming quality defects and notifying Group Leader, Supervisor, Manager, and / or Quality Assurance Department
• Able to identify various types of quality defects based on appearance, fit, form, and function.
• Troubleshooting minor machine-related issues and minimizing downtime by escalating to Barcode Set-Up or Barcode Maintenance Technician for major machine-related problems.
• Assisting with machine changeovers and ensuring proper line clearance and start-up with efficiency in mind
• Proper organization and cleanliness of assigned work area to highest level of Westlake standards.
• Training of new barcode personnel (both full-time and temporary) as needed and assigned.
• Performing the above mentioned functions with minimum supervision
• Required to work overtime as needed or instructed by Supervisor.
• Any other duties as assigned by supervision or management.
