Job summary

A hospitality management company in Chicago is seeking a motivated Barback to join their energetic team. The successful candidate will maintain bar cleanliness, assist bartenders, and ensure guest satisfaction. Experience in the hospitality sector is required. This role offers an opportunity to grow within the vibrant environment of a restaurant focused on genuine hospitality and team support. Must be at least 18 years old and ready to work various shifts, including weekends.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • Ability to work both opening and closing shifts (11 am–2 am).
  • Must have all required food/alcohol certifications as designated by location.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the physical atmosphere and cleanliness of the bar.
  • Greet all guests to ensure their satisfaction.
  • Prepare perishable garnishes and fruits for the bar.
  • Assist bartender with opening/closing, setup, and bar prep.
  • Transport taps, replace kegs, and maintain bar cleanliness and organization.
  • Ensure bar areas meet cleanliness standards and safety codes.

The Barback supports the bartender to help ensure all details of service are performed properly and every guest receives the highest quality of service. Primary Responsibilities and Duties
Essential Functions
  • Maintain the physical atmosphere and cleanliness of the bar. This includes requisitioning and stocking of all beer, wine, spirits, paper products, straws, stirrers, and condiments.
  • Responsible for maintaining stock, cutting, and sorting of all fresh fruit and vegetable garnishes, juices, and perishables daily to ensure product quality
  • Greet all guests in a courteous manner to ensure their complete satisfaction.
  • Always strive to exceed our guests’ expectations.
  • Retrieve orders from storeroom, visually check stock and reconcile with written requisitions to ensure order accuracy and re-check stock upon delivery.
  • Prepare the bar by cutting, slicing, and peeling perishable garnishes and fruits, mixing, and pouring juices and storing back-up supplies in prescribed containers.
  • Check with and assist the bartender to stock and maintain the bar to include, but not limited to, paper products, straws and stirrers, condiments, glassware, ice and produce.
  • Transport taps and replace and perform routine maintenance on beer kegs.
  • Maintain cleanliness of bar area, beer lockers, refrigerators, and storage areas in accordance with federal, state, local and company codes
  • Staying updated on current menu choices, specialties, and menu deviations
  • Provide assistant to Open and Close the bar by setting up and breaking down the bar and service stations
  • Maintain acceptable standards of personal hygiene and uniform standards.

  • Ability to work both closing and opening shifts. (We open at 11 am and close at 2 am)

Ability to work a variable schedule, including weekends.

Work Environment/ Physical Demand
  • Must be able to stand for full shift
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Must have good hearing for accurate communication with guests.
  • Must be able to work in areas of loud noise.
  • Required to frequently reach, bend, stoop, and carry
  • Must be able to work in both warm and cool environments; indoors and outdoors
  • Must be able to tolerate potential exposure to allergens: peanut products, egg, dairy, gluten, soy, seafood, and shellfish
  • Extended periods of standing and walking to different parts of the restaurant at different levels.
  • Fast paced hands-on position.
  • Dining facilities are both outside and inside. Lighting is maintained at a low level.
