Job summary

Marriott Chattanooga is seeking a Banquet Captain to lead banquet servers, bartenders, and housemen with calm authority. You will set up banquet rooms, oversee guest service, and ensure compliance with alcohol service and safety policies.

The role requires supervising staff during events, coordinating with the kitchen, and maintaining a clean, ready-for-visit space. A high school diploma and banquet/server experience are preferred.

Job Title: Banquet Captain

Department: Banquet

Reports to: Director of Outlets

Status: Non-Exempt / Hourly

Job Summary:

Set up banquet/meeting room with specified, appropriate items. Leads the banquet servers, bartenders, and housemen to success with a calm and authoritative demeanor.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Supervises the set-up and break down of the tables, chairs, silverware, linens and glassware for events
• Resolves problems with guests to the best of their ability, by using critical thinking and problem solving skills
• Ensuring that the bartenders on events are verifying the ages of every guest to ensure they are of the proper age to consume alcohol
• Shows and assists servers in proper set up of buffets and order of food, while encouraging creativity
• Circling the guest floor during meal service to touch tables and assist servers whenever necessary
• Make sure that the guarantee is accurate for the guest count so that billing can be done properly.
• Generate the guest check for each event that happens during the day along with a corresponding captain report
• Create side work duties for the staff and follow up to confirm completion of assigned tasks.
• Ensure all areas of space are clean and show ready at all times for site visits that may come through any day of the week.
• Maintain a clean work space in the back hallway.
• Maintain a clean uniform and person.
• Certified in Serving Alcohol with Care training and has a valid TABC card.
• Knowledge of fire alarm system and evacuation procedures.
• Keep confidential the business functions of the company including, but not limited to, financial status, customer/guest information, employee issues, etc.
• Quickly respond to all guest request
• Immediately resolve any guest issues and report them on the captain report.
• Never eats, drinks, or smokes in view of a guest.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Must be able to stand/walk on feet for up to 8 hours.
• Must be able to handle heat and stress.
• Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, push and stretch.
• Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
• Must be comfortable using a step stool or ladder.
• Must have clear vision for close cleaning and writing tasks.
• Must have clear vision for distances up to 25 feet.
• Must have good finger dexterity for prep work and writing.
• Must be able to use/lift arms for up to 8 hours.

Education and Experience:

• A high school diploma or equivalent.
• Prior experience of banquet operations is preferred.
• Experience as a server is preferred.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• Supervise and direct banquet staff to set-up and execute event.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
