The ideal candidate has 5+ years of bankruptcy experience, familiarity with Florida procedures, and proficiency with CM/ECF, PACER, and MS Office.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of bankruptcy paralegal experience in a law firm.
  • Experience supporting bankruptcy matters in Florida Bankruptcy Courts with local rules.
  • Strong knowledge of FRBP and FRCivP.
  • Proficiency with CM/ECF, PACER, Best Case, and MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file bankruptcy court documents, including proofs of claim, motions, petitions, schedules, and statements of financial affairs.
  • Draft, review, and manage discovery requests and related case materials.
  • Utilize CM/ECF and PACER to electronically file bankruptcy documents.
  • Maintain and monitor case calendars and deadlines across jurisdictions.
  • Organize physical and electronic case files for accessibility and accuracy.
  • Analyze, summarize, and index legal, financial, and corporate records.
  • Prepare hearing binders, agendas, exhibits, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist attorneys with case management, legal research, and trial or hearing support.
  • Communicate with clients, attorneys, court personnel, trustees, and stakeholders on case status.

Location

This is a full-time, non-exempt position based in a Tampa, Florida office, but may be open to being performed remotely from anywhere within the state of Florida for the right fit.

Position Summary

The Bankruptcy Paralegal provides comprehensive support to attorneys within the Litigation & Disputes practice, assisting with all phases of complex bankruptcy and insolvency matters. This role is responsible for preparing and filing bankruptcy court documents, managing case deadlines, coordinating discovery, organizing case materials, and supporting client matters from inception through resolution. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience handling bankruptcy matters across multiple jurisdictions, with a strong understanding of Florida bankruptcy practice, and experience representing Chapter 7 trustees, creditors, investors, distressed debt lenders, and creditor committees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and file bankruptcy court documents, including:
    • Proofs of Claim
    • Motions for Relief from Stay
    • Fee Applications
    • Petitions
    • Schedules
    • Statements of Financial Affairs
  • Draft, review, and manage discovery requests and related case materials.
  • Utilize CM/ECF and PACER systems to electronically file court documents in bankruptcy courts.
  • Maintain and monitor case calendars, ensuring all deadlines, hearings, and filing requirements are met.
  • Manage and organize physical and electronic case files, ensuring accuracy and accessibility of records.
  • Analyze, summarize, and index legal, financial, and corporate records.
  • Prepare hearing binders, agendas, exhibits, and supporting case documentation.
  • Assist attorneys with case management, legal research, document preparation, and trial or hearing support.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, attorneys, court personnel, trustees, and other stakeholders regarding case status and deadlines.
  • Handle multiple complex matters simultaneously while meeting strict and changing deadlines across various jurisdictions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree, Paralegal Certificate, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of bankruptcy paralegal experience in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Required experience supporting bankruptcy matters in Florida Bankruptcy Courts, including familiarity with local rules, procedures, and filing requirements.
  • Strong knowledge of the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
  • Experience supporting bankruptcy matters in federal and local bankruptcy courts.
  • Proficiency with CM/ECF, PACER, Best Case, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients and colleagues.
  • Experience working with Chapter 7 matters preferred.
  • Knowledge of bankruptcy procedures in multiple jurisdictions is a plus.
