Responsibilities

• Represent secured lenders, trade creditors, landlords, fiduciaries and asset purchasers in bankruptcy and restructuring matters.
• Lead Chapter 11 proceedings and creditor rights matters.
• Oversee out-of-court workouts and restructurings.
• Supervise receiverships and assignments for the benefit of creditors.
• Negotiate distressed acquisitions and asset sales.
• Handle preference, fraudulent transfer and other insolvency litigation.
• Address loan defaults, foreclosures and negotiated resolutions.

Job description

An established mid sized Chicago law firm is seeking a Bankruptcy and Creditors' Rights Partner to expand its restructuring capabilities and play a leading role in the continued development of the practice.

The firm has complementary strengths across commercial litigation, lending, corporate and real estate matters. This creates a strong platform for a partner who wants to grow an existing practice through internal introductions, competitive rates and direct access to decision makers.

The Opportunity

The successful partner may represent secured lenders, trade creditors, landlords, fiduciaries, asset purchasers, distressed businesses and other stakeholders in matters including:

• Chapter 11 proceedings
• Creditor rights and enforcement matters
• Out of court workouts and restructurings
• Receiverships and assignments for the benefit of creditors
• Distressed acquisitions and asset sales
• Preference, fraudulent transfer and other insolvency litigation
• Loan defaults, foreclosures and negotiated resolutions

Requirements

Candidates should have at least ten years of bankruptcy, restructuring or creditor rights experience. They should possess strong market relationships, excellent commercial judgement and the ability to lead complex matters.

A portable practice of approximately $500,000 or more is preferred. The firm will also consider a smaller current book where the candidate has recurring institutional relationships, a persuasive growth plan or clear opportunities to generate work across the wider platform.
