Job summary

Sylvania in Center, Texas, seeks a dedicated instrumental music director to lead the band program across marching band, orchestra, concert band, solos and ensembles. You will provide learning activities that foster intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth while enabling participation in extracurricular band activities.

The role requires a bachelor’s degree, a valid Texas teaching certificate, and evidence of competency in instrumental music, plus AED certification.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
• Valid Texas teaching certificate.
• Demonstrated competency in instrumental music.
• AED certificate.
• Reading by Design - Dyslexia (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Direct instrumental performers, including marching band, orchestra, concert band, soloists, and ensembles.
• Establish performance requirements, verify student eligibility for band participation.
• Coordinate band performances at events, including games and UIL activities.
• Support band booster club activities and fundraising.
• Develop curriculum plans with accommodations for individual student differences.
• Plan instructional strategies and materials aligned with TEA guidelines.
• Work with staff to determine goals and methods per district requirements.
• Use evaluation data to improve program effectiveness and renewal.
• Oversee budgets, inventory, and maintenance of instruments and equipment.
