Job description

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate, with required endorsements for subject/level assigned
  • CDL obtained within 18 months of employment for coaches, ag teachers, and band directors.
  • Knowledge of subjects assigned
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Strong communications, public relations, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing band
  • At least one year to student teaching or approved internship
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Program 1. Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' band abilities initially and on a regular basis.
  • 2. Manage and supervise band activities, contests, and practice sessions that promote individual growth in band skills, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
  • 3. Keep informed of and ensure compliance with all UIL rules.
  • 4. Monitor and enforce student eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
  • 5. Provide for scheduling competitions and coordinating arrangements.
  • 6. Develop and implement plans for the curriculum program assigned and strategies show written evidence of preparation as required.
  • 7. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
  • 8. Present the subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • 9. Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with the needs and capabilities of the student groups involved.
  • 10. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods in accordance with district requirements.
  • 11. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and/or volunteer(s).
  • 12. Employ the use of technologies in the teaching/learning process.
  • 13. Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
  • 14. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required.
  • 15. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and may sponsor outside activities approved by the school.
  • 16. Present for students a positive role model that supports the mission of the school district.
  • 17. Assess and respond to needs related to job responsibilities.
  • 18. Create a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • 19. Establish control in the classroom and administer discipline in accordance with board policies and administrative regulations.
  • 20. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • 21. Assist in the selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • 22. Travel with students assigned and supervise the band during competitions.
  • 23. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.
  • 24. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • 25. Use acceptable communication skills to present information, accurately and clearly.
  • 26. Participate in the district staff development program.
  • 27. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
  • 28. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  • 29. Articulate the district's missions and goals in the area of band to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  • 30. Demonstrate awareness of district -community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.
  • 31. Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.
  • 32. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • 33. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  • 34. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
