Job Overview

Reporting into the Maintenance Manager, the Stationary Engineer/Multi‑Skilled Mechanic will be based out of Baltimore, MD and will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and reliability of plant equipment, boilers, buildings, and facilities within a unionized environment.

Responsibilities
  • Stationary Engineer Duties:
    • Operate and maintain boilers, air compressors, cooling towers, and related equipment in accordance with state and plant requirements.
    • Work with site leadership to ensure full compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards applicable to the operation of stationary engineering systems.
    • Follow the duties of the Station Engineer outlined in form CSOP-310.
    • Provide reliable boiler coverage during regular operations.
    • Serve as the primary Grade 1 Licensed Stationary Engineer or as a designated back‑up when required by the Company.
    • Complete continuous education requirements as needed to maintain Grade 1 Stationary Engineer licensing.
  • Multi‑Skilled Mechanic Duties:
    • Pipe‑fitting: understand basic pipe‑fitting theory, fluid dynamics, use levels, plumb bobs, layout techniques, identify piping materials, operate pipe‑threading equipment, perform gasket and bolt‑up techniques, bevel and prep butt‑weld fit‑ups, use appropriate welding rod, install and repair industrial valves, run and connect copper and stainless‑steel tubing.
    • Welding/Burning: understand concepts of welding and joints, set up and use cutting torch, stick weld various materials, brazing, soldering, carbon and plasma arc gouging.
    • Millwright/Machinist: understand thermal expansion, operate shop lathe and milling machine, use calipers, micrometers, feeler gauges and dial indicators, understand pumps and lubricants, rebuild gear boxes, pumps, blowers, screws and conveyors.
    • Equipment Operation/Rigging: understand rigging theory and safety, use barricades, load balancing and spreader devices, operate forklift, front‑end loader and hydraulic crane, set up air compressors and pneumatic tools, use chain falls and lever hoists.
    • Electrical: understand basic electrical power theory, safety hazards, components, overload protection, fuses, circuit breakers, and read construction drawings.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.; must possess necessary math and metric skills.
  • Must hold or be able to obtain a Grade 1 Licensed Stationary Engineer license from the Maryland Board of Stationary Engineers.
  • 5–8 years of relevant industrial maintenance experience and proven experience as a Multi‑Skilled Mechanic.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete continuous education requirements necessary to maintain license.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift vehicle parts and components up to 50 lbs without assistance.
  • Climb stairs, catwalks, portable and fixed ladders; crawl beneath equipment; work in confined spaces.
  • Operate equipment up to 90 ft. above ground level; perform tasks in cramped, awkward, or slippery surfaces.
